Y/N's P.O.V.

Being the daughter of one of the world's greatest doctors wasn't exactly what you'd expect. My dad treated me like a princess, he was always accepting and kind and he listened to anything and everything I had to say... well, he did whenever he was around. His hours at the hospital were random and sometimes he could be home for days, other times he'd come home when I was sleeping and leave before I woke up.
Despite all of that, he was my best friend. I loved him more than anything else in the world and when he got in the accident... it destroyed everything.
He couldn't work and he was throwing every dollar we had at experimental surgeries that were probably doing more harm than good.

"I know this his hard for you, Y/N." Christine rubbed my arm as I leaned into her side, sniffling. My cheeks were stained with tears and my throat sore, I probably looked a mess. Christine was the closest thing I ever had to a mother, considering my own died giving birth to me.
"But your dad... he needs you, alright? More than ever."

"He doesn't want me anywhere near him, Christine." I sobbed and she held me a little tighter.
"I tried to help with his research and he just shouted at me. He's never shouted at me like that. It scared me."

"I know." She whispered.
"It's gonna get better. I promise. How about you come and stay with me for a few days?" I nodded my head and she gave me a small smile, wiping away my tears. It wouldn't be the first time I stayed at Christine's. We used to do sleepovers all the time before the accident.
"Pack your bag, okay? I'm going to talk to your dad." She kissed my head, before moving out of my bed and going over to the door.

"Thank you." I mumbled and the woman gave me a small smile, before leaving. Grabbing a bag, I packed enough clothes for a few days, remembering to pack pyjamas and toiletries too. It only took a few minutes, but almost as soon as I was done, I could hear Christine and my dad arguing.

"She's my daughter! You can't take her away from me!" My dad shouted loudly and I cracked my door open slightly.

"You're not stable, Stephen! You upset her! You scared her!" Christine shot back and a deafening silence seemed to echo through the apartment.

"I scared her?" I heard my dad ask quietly and my heart broke. It sounded like he was crying. Fresh tears burned my eyes and I wanted to go over and hug him, but I was glued to my spot.

"I'm taking her to my apartment. It's not forever, just until you can figure out... whatever it is that you need to figure out." Footsteps came down the hall and I closed my bedroom door, stepping back, but it didn't matter. Judging my the look on Christine's face, she knew I had been listening.
"Do you want to say goodbye?" She asked and I hesitated.

"No." I knew that if I saw my dad I wouldn't want to leave. And I needed to leave, for just a few days. Then I could come back and hopefully things could go back to the way they were.

I had been at Christine's apartment for 3 days when I got the email. An email from my dad. I didn't hesitate to open it, reading the words eagerly.
My dad and I used to send emails to each other all the time, it was silly, but we would email each other about anything and everything. We'd email about what was for dinner or about our day. We'd email each other when we were sat in the same room and I never really understood why, but it was our thing. He'd always sign the emails with 'Dr. Dad', because he knew it made me laugh when I was younger.

My dearest Y/N,
I am so terribly sorry for the way I have treated you these past few months.
I have been a horrible person and an even worse father. I understand why you left to stay with Christine, which is why I'm hoping you'll understood why I've left too.
A man named Johnathan Pangborn was paralysed from the neck down, but he went to this place in Kathmandu and they healed him. I didn't believe it at first, but then I saw him walking around with my own eyes.
They might be able to heal me too.

Y/N, I love you, more than anything, but I don't know when I will see you next. Christine will look after you whilst I'm gone.
Please understand why I'm doing this.
Remember, I love you.
-Dr. Dad

"Christine!" I called out and the woman appeared in the doorway just a few moments later, a concerned look on her face. I showed her the email and the concern changed to confusion and anger.
"He's gone." I mumbled, feeling myself tear up.
"Christine, what am I going to do?"

"He'll be back, Y/N." She set the laptop down, but there was an unsure look on her face.
"You are his whole world. Even your dad isn't stupid enough to give that up."
