Trigger warnings- mentions of a panic attack & brief mentions of a suicide attempt

Y/N's P.O.V.

Dating the Devil had its perks, but it also had its disadvantages.
Matt was sweet and kind and respectful, but he'd also disappear for days at a time and show up unannounced, bloody and bruised.
It was stressful, but I loved him. Of course I did.
We met the night I was at my lowest point, ready to give up.
My heart was racing as I looked down at the traffic from the roof of the hospital.
He talked me down from jumping, even going as far as taking off his mask, showing me he was 'just a guy' and convincing me I could trust him. When I moved away from the edge he hugged me, refusing to let go until I promised I was okay.

"Matt, I'm home." I kicked the door closed lightly, dropping my keys onto the table, before placing my bag down next to it.
"Matt?" I knew he had been back, because his cane was by the table, but his lack of response indicated he'd gone out again.
The first indication that something was wrong was the smashed glass in a puddle of water, the second was the sound of heavy breathing coming from behind the kitchen counter. I hesitantly stepped over the broken glass, my heart shattering when I saw Matt curled up in the corner, his arms covering his head as his figure shook.
"Matty?" He didn't react and I moved to kneel in front of him, touching his arm, causing him to flinch away from me.
"Matt, it's me?"

"Y/N?" Tears streamed down his face and he reached his hand out, letting me take it. A sob escaped his throat.

"What's-"

"I can't hear anything." He whispered.
"I can't hear." Then I saw it, the dried blood in his ears. If I thought my heart was broken before, that was nothing compared to what I felt in that moment. How terrified he must have been and there was nothing I could do.

"Shh, you're okay." I kissed his hand, before helping him to his feet. He trembled and I held onto him tightly, leading him out of the kitchen and onto the couch. When I let go of him to go into the bathroom, he gripped onto my wrist. I gently placed my hand over his and his hold loosened slightly, before his hand fell back into his lap. Moving quickly, I went to the bathroom, grabbed the first aid kit, before returning to Matt's side.
"You're okay." I muttered, reassuring myself as I cleaned the blood from his ears. When that was done, Matt pulled me into his lap, burying his head in the crook of my neck.

"I can't loose my hearing too." He muttered against my skin and I ran my fingers through his hair, trying to soothe him. We stayed like that for a while, Matt curled around me, his hand over my heart. I knew being able to hear heartbeats helped him tell who was in the room, so I supposed feeling mine was helping him.
"Y/N?" Matt asked quietly, moving his head away from my neck. I just looked at him, a small frown on both of our faces.

"I'm sorry, Matt." Was all I could muster.
"I'm sorry I can't do more."

"It's not your fault." He replied in a whisper.
"I can hear again... there's just ringing." He moved his hand around near his ear, answering the question I didn't dare ask.
I let out a shaky sigh, resting my forehead against his.

"That must have been terrifying." I whispered and Matt's lack of response told me I was right.

"Thank you for staying with me." He replied just as quietly and I sat back slightly.

"What? Was I supposed to leave you curled up on the kitchen floor?" I asked, trying to move out of his lap, but his hands on my hips secured me in place.
"Matt.." I sighed, looking at him.
"You found me at my lowest and decided I was worth saving, you never have to thank me for helping you. I love you."

"I love you too." I pressed a kiss to his head.

"Good, because you being scared freaked me out and I want an explanation." He chucked as if I told him a bad joke.
"I'm serious. I need to know."

"When I went out last night I hit my head. I didn't think much of it at the time, but..." He fell silent for a moment or two.
"Maybe I should get Claire to check it out."

"You think?" I asked sarcastically and he smiled weakly.
"I'll give her a call."
