Y/N's P.O.V.

If you had told me 6 months ago that I would be working for the Avengers full-time, I would have laughed in your face and told you to get your head checked.
But there I was, living in the tower with them and going on missions.
I hadn't realised how much I missed working for SHIELD until I worked for the Avengers. The adrenaline, the thrill, it was completely different from committing crimes.

"Man, shut the Hell up." I looked at the pair as they came onto the Quinjet. Sam held a bloodied cloth to his head and Bucky had a smirk on his lips, clearly having said something that annoyed Sam.

"Y/N, you okay?" Clint nudged me and I looked at him, nodding my head.
I didn't really speak to many people on the team. Clint and Nat, yeah. We used to work together at SHIELD. Banner was a nice guy, too, quiet and a little shy, but nice. A couple of the others made attempts to talk to me, but I couldn't help but feel awkward around them. They were heroes and I was far from being a hero of any kind.

"I know it's been a long mission, but we'll be back home soon." Nat added and I gave her a tired smile.
The mission actually went really well, but we had been gone for a little over 2 weeks and I was so worried about my sister. I knew she was safe in the hospital and nothing could change that, but I still worried.
"I know that look. What's worrying you?"

"Kayla." I mumbled.
"I miss her and I have this feeling something's happened." I shook my head and Nat frowned.

"I'm sure everything is fine." I nodded my head, rubbing my eyes as a wave of tiredness washed over me. I leaned my head back, looking around, before my eyes locked with Sam's. He gave me a half smile and I returned the gesture.
I considered Sam my friend, there was just something about him... he had gone with me to visit Kayla in the hospital at any chance he could.
He was a flirt and even though it was annoying as Hell at times, I'd find myself blushing at some of his comments.
I closed my eyes, knowing that the journey back was going to be a long one, but before I knew it, we were back.

"Someone was tired." Clint chuckled.
"We thought we were going to have to carry you inside." I rolled my eyes and got up, sluggishly moving into the building.

"You okay?" I jumped at the voice, turning to see Sam with a slightly concerned look on his face.

"I'm exhausted." I admitted, making him laugh a little, nodding his head.
"You?" I gestures towards his head injury that must have been patched up on our way back.

"Cuts and bruises, I've had worse." Mine and Sam's room were on the same floor, so we got out of the elevator, neither of us talking much.

"Miss L/N, Miss Romanoff just asked me to inform you that she has called your sister's hospital." The voice of JARVIS stopped me before I could open my door.
"Your sister is awake and asking for you." My jaw dropped and I looked at Sam, who seemed just as shocked as I did.

"Thanks, JARVIS. Come on." Sam spoke up and I looked at him in confusion.
"You said it yourself, you're exhausted. I'll drive." I nodded my head and followed him into the elevator, going down to the garage.
The journey to the hospital was tense and I was nervous as Hell.
"Y/N?" I looked at Sam, part of me not wanting to get out of the car.

"What if she hates me?" I asked and he frowned.
"It's my fault she's in there. What if-"

"No." Sam shook his head.
"If you start thinking about the what ifs then you're not going to want to go in." He looked at me.
"She asked for you. She clearly wants to see you." I nodded slowly and we got out of the car, going inside.
"Hey." Sam took my hand and pulled me back a little once we reached the room.
"I'm going to wait out here. Okay?"

"Thanks, Sam." I smiled, before letting myself into the room. A nurse greeted me and my baby sister's eyes lit up when she saw me and the nurse left.
"Kayla, oh God."

"I know I've been in a coma for the past few months, but Jesus Christ, you look awful." She joked and I moved over, hugging her. Tears pricked at my eyes and she hugged me back.
"Who would have guessed my big sis would become an Avenger?"

"How did you...?" I looked at her in confusion. I wasn't an official Avenger, not yet. My name was still being cleared, so until then my name was kept out of things.

"The doctors told you I could hear you. I know, because I heard them telling you." I laughed weakly.
"Y/N, what happened... it wasn't your fault. What happened to our parents..."

"Don't." I shook my head.

"Fine." She sighed.
"Then you better tell me about this boyfriend of yours. I need to know if he's good enough for you."

"My what?" I pulled a face.
"No. I didn't come here to talk about me. You-"

"He sounds tall. Is that possible? Can someone sound tall?" She pondered and I glared at her slightly.
"Deep voice, flirts a lot, brought you flowers that one time."

"Sam is not my boyfriend." I muttered.

"Sam! That's the one, sorry, I forgot his name." Kayla grinned at me.
"What does he look like? Is he handsome?"

"God, Kayla, stop." I groaned, feeling heat crawling up my neck.

"When can I meet him? Properly, I mean?" She asked and I glanced towards the door, causing her to gasp.
"Is he here now?"

"No." I shook my head and she grinned.

"Sam!" She shouted loudly and I cringed.

"Kayla, I swear, I'm going to kill you. Shut up!" I hissed and she looked like she was going to shout again, when the door opened.

"Y/N?" Sam asked and I looked back at him innocently.
"Everything okay?"

"Oh, damn! So you're Sam?" Kayla asked and I sighed.
"Y/N, he's really hot!" She whispered loudly, making Sam chuckle.
"Come here! I want to say hi!"

"Hey." Sam smiled at her, stepping into the room.

"So you're the one who talked Y/N into joining the Avengers, huh?" Kayla asked.
"Probably a bad idea, she looks terrible. When was the last time you got a good night's sleep?" Sam laughed a little as Kayla went into mothering mode, attacking me with questions I didn't care to answer.

"You're a child." I muttered after she asked Sam how tall he was. She seemed satisfied with his answer.
"I need to go and get some sleep. I'll be back as soon as I can." I leaned over and kissed her head.

"You gotta come back too." She looked at Sam, who seemed to be endlessly amused.
"Y/N really likes you, so-"

"Goodbye, Kayla." I sighed as we moved towards the door.

"I want nieces and nephews!" She shouted as I closed the door.

"So... you really like me, do you?" Sam asked teasingly and I glared at him slightly, but I can't imagine I was very intimidating.
"I'm taking that as a yes, which is good, because I really like you too."

"What?"

"How about after we've both caught up on sleep, I take you out to dinner? My treat?" He asked hopefully and I couldn't stop the small smile spreading across my face.

"Yeah, okay." I nodded.
"It's a date."
