Chapter 13 - Aussies in London

After the season ended, all the aussie chicks caught up in London before we went off to camp to prepare for the Olympics. Sam, Alanna, Caitlin, Hayley, Mackenzie, Steph, Lydia, Emily and I all went for drinks in London. It was awesome being back with my Matilda girls, who I don't normally see anymore, due to our hectic schedules. We all sat around together, laughing, chatting and talking. Each of us had some news that everyone was invested in - me and Jill, Sam and Kristie, Caitlin and Lia and so on. Relationships galore with the Matildas. 

By June we were in Camp preparing for the Olympics. The roster was going to be announced at the end of the month, and although I wasn't scared or worried about not making it, it is still a stressful period.

I am quite active on instagram. Since Jill's birthday post, I have posted photos of us together, as well as game day shots, training shots, and pictures of the Aussie girls in London. Recently, I posted a picture of me and Sam at camp. We were sitting on the side of the pitch, smiling at the camera. I captioned it:

Even Kristie commented on the photo. Sam and Kristie are regular commenters on each other's posts, and my posts, of each other. Kristie commented:

kmewis19: I want to be stuck with that one ;)

The Kristie - Sam flirting on instagram is going to whole new levels, everyone, including myself, is wondering when they will just make it official. I asked Sam, at camp, when they would stop beating around the bush and just make it public knowledge.
"Sam, are you guys ever gonna become official?"
"We have talked about this," she started, "and we were thinking after the Olympics. We don't want any sort of unhealthiness to form. You know?" I did understand. As Kristie got announced for the Olympics and similarly, Sam being Captain of the Matildas, one wouldn't want to have a love story shine over that.

When the Olympic roster was announced, there were no real surprises. And as we played some international friendlies leading into the Olympics, I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to play Jill.

"Sam?" I said to her, as we lay awake one night in camp.
"Yeah." She replied.
"What if I have to play Jill? What if you have to play Kristie? What would happen?" She turned to look at me, understanding my concerns.
"We just have to be mature about it. Obviously we want to win so the best we can do is win with grace and lose with dignity." She said it in the way any captain should.
"Yeah, yeah. Ok." We turned off the light, and slept soundly.
