After weeks of talking with Remus and my coworkers I figure out which bracelets to shut down. It seems to be making the wolves rethink their actions. I still think it's cruel. At the Order meeting I'm fiddling with the beads while Dumbledore talks.
"Andrea, what is the word on the prophecy?" Dumbledore asks.
"No one but Voldemort and Harry can take it down without going mad. That ward has been there for centuries. I still don't understand why we're not telling Harry."
"He is much too young to know about it. He does not need that fear in his life."
"Fear? You mean like being been chased down by a basilisk at twelve years old? How about when he faced countless other dangerous animals in the tournament last year? Oh! I know! When he fought Voldemort himself."
"I am not discrediting what Harry has done, I just think that this is more than he needs."
"I think you don't truly know what Harry can and cannot handle. I know you're not telling him because of the connection and I know you won't let me work on it while Harry is willing to let me take a look."
"You told Harry about it." Dumbledore says in understanding.
"I told him he wasn't alone. This kind of connection has happened multiple times in Africa and was taken care of in many different ways. His least favorite choice was death and the more we wait the more that will be the one he's stuck with."
"When did you become his guardian?" Sirius asks.
"Oh fuck off, Black. You know I'm right and agreed with me before the meeting. Now what's changed?" I demand, losing my temper with my uncle. Sirius looks at me with shock and hurt at how I'd addressed him, but I don't back down.
"That's enough, Andrea." Molly says. I turn my glare on her for a second before turning back to Dumbledore.
"Keeping him in the dark will only allow Voldemort more access. He's an emotional, hormonal teenager, occlumency won't work and it's not guaranteed anyway."
"Fine. What do you propose?" Sirius snaps.
"You two come and visit me at work. There are three other coworkers of mine who have read the same research I have with more experience behind them. Let us look. Siri, you can stay by his side the entire time."
"Absolutely not. No one is allowed in the Department of Mysteries except Unspeakables." Dumbledore says. I look at the maps in front of us pointedly.
"If we do nothing but wait for Voldemort to kill Harry to close the connection we're no better than Fudge, waiting around for Voldemort to gain strength and numbers."
"When did you become so...protective of the boy, Miss Prewett?" Snape asks.
"I always have been. Your just finally noticing." I say and his face hardens.
"Shall we rest these until after Andrea has had her time with Harry?" McGonagall asks.
"I believe that's best. Especially if they will be right in the other room anyway." Kingsley says.
"Alright, Andrea. Next week Harry is yours to look into." Dumbledore says. I nod and look at my uncle.
"Siri?"
"How safe is it?"
"The options are occlumency which isn't guaranteed, my coworkers and I looking around to see what we can find and do, or death from the one who cursed them in the first place."
"We'll be at your cottage bright and early Monday morning." Sirius says without hesitation. I nod my agreement to his words.
The next day at work I knock on Jessica's door and gather her in Myron's office along with Casey.
