When Bill, Charlie, Percy, and I get to the Burrow for the holidays we are bombarded with hugs from Arthur, the twins, Ron, and Ginny and that's before Molly gets her hands on us. Breathing became a luxury due to how hard she hugged us. When I'm finally free to put my trunk in my room I open the door to find two boxes on my bed.
"Aunt Molly!" I call, heading back down the stairs.
"Yes, dear?" She answers.
"Do you know why there are boxes on my bed?"
"Those came from your parents' close friend, Remus Lupin. He said he didn't know where the rest was but what he did have belongs to you."
"The rest of what?"
"I'm not sure. We haven't checked. They're your things." Molly says. I nod my thanks and head back up to my room.
Door closed, I place my trunk against my wall and move toward the cardboard boxes. In the first I find a smart outfit, a leather jacket, and a fancy looking jewelry box. In the second cardboard box I find two books of difficult spells and wards, a purple journal, two pictures in frames: mom and dad on their wedding day and mom, dad, and I when I was either three or four, and mom's wand.
When I pick up the picture of the three of us a note falls out.
Dear Andrea,
I finally plucked up the courage to go through the belongings that had been given to me to go through all those years ago. I don't know where most of your mother's belongings are and I assume your father's belongings were given to your aunt, but these belong to you.
Sincerely,
Uncle Remus
I put down the note and look at the picture of my family when it was whole. I guess I now have to truly accept that they're gone. Especially since I now have my mother's wand. She made sure to always have that with her. Slowly and methodically I put the clothes in the wardrobe, the picture of the three of us on the side table and mom and dad's wedding day on the book shelf, and place the jewelry box on the dresser. I then turn to the box of books, journal, and wand.
The wand had obviously seen battle, slightly chipped in a couple places and singed in others but otherwise in good condition. I think about my aunt and uncle, who I have not let buy me a single school item or item of clothing due to the fact that I have the Macdonald bank account and they have seven kids to care for. My aunt and uncle who let me in without hesitation. My aunt and uncle who still have four other kids to get through Hogwarts. Sighing, I put my mother's wand to the side, a conversation to have with them later.
Next I pick up her journal and begin to flip through it. I frown when I realize the last date in it is in 1972 with well over half of the journal left.
In theory it should have worked. I guess it did. Kind of. At the expense of two others. The guilt of what I have done has been eating at me, even if the girls say they understand and that it's okay. I shouldn't be casting or changing spells when the outcome could be so bad.
"Seriously?" I ask the room. I flip through the journal, stopping on a random page.
The adoption ritual with Sirius went well. Maybe a little too well. We saw Sirius' magic join Maggie and Johnny's in the tapestry that is my family. Our magics also wove itself between our persons. If either of us die, the other will feel it. If either of us manage some big magical change, the other will too without having to do the work for it. I'm glad I now have Sirius permanently, but the full consequences of how I altered the spell scare me.
"I see no problem." I mutter before flipping again.
Dorcus, Lily, Marlene, and I did it. I didn't think we would. Mainly because we'd have to convince Lily. The second worry was the amount of power it takes to make a coven. Then there's the fact that magically official covens are so rare that I wasn't sure it would take. We did it though. The four of us are officially bonded through love, blood, and magic forever; sisters.
I drop mom's journal and dive towards the spell books as that passage ends. I settle in my desk chair and begin to read.
"ANDREA! DINNER!" I hear Ron bellow, startling me.
"I could have done that, Ronald." Molly scolds. I smile a bit as I save my place in the book and head down to my family.
"Thank you, Aunt Molly."
"You're welcome, dear." She says, serving the meal to everyone.
That night I pull Molly and Arthur aside to talk.
"I am so grateful for all you have done for me, even though I know it's not easy."
"It's no trouble at all, dear." Molly says.
"You have four more kids to get through Hogwarts. Well, um...it's seen a battle or two but I would like to offer this to help you." I say, bringing out my mother's wand.
"Your wand? What do mean you've seen battle?" Arthur asks.
"That's Mary's wand, dear." Molly whispers, a hand over her mouth.
"It was in one of the boxes Remus brought." I say quietly.
"Andrea...are you sure you don't want to save it?" Arthur asks.
"I'm positive. Besides, I have a feeling one of the twins will be the perfect fit for it." I say with a shrug.
"Thank you, Andrea." Molly says, hugging me. Arthur hugs me as soon as she lets me go.
"I also have Gryffindor Quidditch robes for when Ginny makes the team." I say and they chuckle.
That night I stay up late reading the spell books from mom's boxes. I bookmark the coven spell, fully intending to bring it up with my friends once we're at Hogwarts again.
