The next day I'm at breakfast with Brooks and Jacob when there's suddenly a red head on either side of me.
"Brooks, Jacob, these are my cousins Bill and Charlie. What's up?" I ask them.
"We're proud of you." Charlie says.
"For what?"
"You broke the Weasley norm!" Charlie says.
"I love you both, but I'm not a Weasley. I'm a Prewett. My mom and dad may have been Gryffindors, but my Granddad Macdonald was a Ravenclaw. My house was never predetermined like you lot." I say, shocking him.
"I told you she would hurt you if you said that." Bill says, laughing. "I'm here to tell you the Gryffindor password incase you need us."
"Seriously?" Brooks asks.
"She's our little cousin, basically our little sister. Of course we'll take care of her." Bill says as he hands me a piece of paper.
"We'll see you later, Andy." Charlie says, musing my hair before going to the Gryffindor table to sit with his friends.
"Seriously though, Andrea. Houses don't matter." Bill says.
"Thanks." I say as he walks away.
"Isn't he Head Boy?" Brooks asks.
"That's not going to stop me from abusing this." I say with a smirk, holding up the parchment before opening it.
This is the password to the head's dorm. You and I both know Charlie and Percy won't do anything if you were to go to Gryffindor Tower. The dorm is by the library behind the portrait of the swinging girl. The password is Mandrake.
I smile at the parchment and pocket the note. After a minute I look over at my cousin. He nods his head at me before turning to his friends.
"Okay, there is no way the classroom is this way." Nikki says as we climb what feels like the thousandth staircase.
"What are you five doing out of class?" McGonagall says, seeing us.
"Horrid luck." Talia mumbles under her breath before we turn. If there's one professor that doesn't need to catch you out of class it's Professor McGonagall.
"We're trying to find the History of Magic classroom, professor." Brooks explains. She purses her lips before nodding.
"You are about three floors too high." She says. I sigh in defeat.
"Thank you, professor." I say.
"Off you go, before you're any later." She says. We don't hesitate to move around her and to the stairs to find the class room.
"What floor are we on now?" Jacob asks.
"This school needs some freaking signs." Talia complains.
"Don't laugh. Don't laugh. Don't laugh." A older Slytherin chants to himself just to be slapped on the arm by the female Slytherin he's with.
"They're Hufflepuffs and first years." She says. The boy looks at us again and looks back at the girl. "If there's one thing you lot need to know it's that Slytherins will adopt you and take care of you."
"Take care of them?" The boy demands.
"Someone has to make their alibies for them." She says with a shrug. "I'm guessing you're lost; what class are you looking for?"
"History of Magic." Nikki says.
"Two corridors over, third door on your left." The boys says, making the girl roll her eyes.
"Follow us. The classes like to change around. As long as you know the general direction the classroom is in you'll find them easily enough." She explains. Soon we hear a droning voice behind the door. "Count yourselves lucky it was just History of Magic. Binns won't even notice you sneaking in."
"That bodes well." I say sarcastically, gaining me a chuckle and smirk.
"Have fun, mini-badgers." The boys says.
"Thank you for the help." Brooks says as Jacob quietly opens the door. We get nods in return as we slip inside. Only the other students notice how late we are.
"I don't think any of us were on time." A boy I recognize as Bryan Cole who was sorted into Ravenclaw tells us before looking forward again.
I look around to see that the class contains every student in our year, I frown when I see how small our class is. The war has effected more than people realize. Bored, I begin to count and then sort the students. There are twenty-six students total-fourteen girls and twelve boys-with eight students in Gryffindor, six students in Slytherin, seven in Ravenclaw, and five in Hufflepuff. What kind of messed up crap is this?
After class Percy all but runs passed me.
"That was kind." Jacob says with a frown.
"Percy hasn't been my biggest fan in years and now we're in different houses and we were late while he's a stickler for the rules."
"Lovely." The other four say in unison but I just shrug.
The next class is much easier to find seeing as it's held in the dungeons: potions.
"So what's up with you and Percy?" Charlie asks three weeks after the beginning of school; Bill, Charlie, and I are relaxing on the grounds as a cousin get together, but they obviously had other motives.
"What do you mean?"
"We mean, Percy's avoiding you like the plague." Bill says and I shrug.
"Percy's always been...'eh' with me, like, I'm just kind of there. Now I'm in a completely different house." I say with a shrug. Both boys roll their eyes.
"Are you finding your classes better?" Charlie asks and I nod.
"It'd help if things stopped moving, but I know the general area things are in so I can find them."
"Good. It took us all of first year to get it." Bill says and I chuckle.
"Seriously, guys. I'm alright. I have amazing friends and amazing cousins...I'm fine." I say. Charlie nods while Bill narrows his eyes. "What?"
"Nothing." He says, shaking his head. Both boys leave it at that.
