Awoken to the fresh smell of winter air, Merlin's eyes adjusted to the new area he was now in. A hoarse groan left his dry lips, blinking rapidly as he moved to sit up.
"Ugh... Where-"
The sound of breathing beside him had caught his attention, turning his head down to the view of a perfect blonde laying on the bed. Back bare and sleeping soundly.
Merlin's eyes grew wide, cheeks flushed with embarrassment, opening his mouth to speak before being cut off.
"Glad to see you are awake."
The sound came from the doorway of the room.
Virre.
Tears began to sit at the edge of Merlin's eyelids, trickling down his cheeks in a matter of seconds as he looked at her. The Elder smiled at this, walking over and placing a kiss on his forehead.
"Y-You don't know h-how much I have missed y-you..." Merlin whispered, clasping onto her hands with a teary smile.
The woman leaned away with a sigh. "It seems I have not been there as much as I have hoped for, my boy." She replied.
"N-No, it's not your fault. I-I was the one who left." He admitted, returning her gaze.
Virre placed her hands on his cheeks, shaking her head. "I was supposed to protect you, I should never have let you leave us on such bad terms..." She began.
"I put your prophecy first and forgot how much I loved you outwith that." Virre smiled sadly. "But I promise you, I will amend my mistakes."
Merlin watched her as she spoke, then replied with a small grin. "You already have."
The two of them seemed content, immediately embracing each other.
A small sigh left Virre's lips as she leaned away and took a seat on the chair that was positioned beside the bed.
"When I said it is your destiny to assist the future King into greatness, I do not think intercourse with him is what I meant." She teased, resting her hands on her lap neatly.
Merlin glared at the old lady, watching her smirk widen before he shook his head. "I-I didn't mean to fall in love with him." He whispered.
Virre raised an eyebrow. "So, it is love?" She asked, watching as the sorcerer nodded sheepishly.
"Well, I love him. I don't know if he loves me the same." Merlin shrugged.
