The gentle dusks of mid-day air filled the castle with a fine breeze, occupied by the feelings rising of the following events that would take place in the evening.
Every single servant in the castle stood before Uther, with the many chefs, and other staff by their sides.
Merlin stood amongst them.
"The festivities for today are not to be taken lightly."
Uther's voice shown of one's leadership and devine truth, he might not ever measure up to the type of king, Arthur would be, but he certainly did have his strengths. Even if he was a royal arse.
"The ball will consist of over one hundred and eighty people, there may be more and if there is, you all must be prepared." He scanned the focused eyes in the room, proud to know they did not lose his attention. "Food must be immaculate, service must be at its peak, and every one of you all–"
Uther could not help his gentle grin.
"Must serve with a smile."
The staff all seemed to look around one another, seemingly confused as to why their King was in such a good mood.
Uther cleared his voice again. "Now! There are many notices in the kitchen, you may go there, one of senior staff should cover any jobs that you all must attend to if that makes it clearer. Understood?"
"Yes my Lord."
As the people of the kingdom all began to exit the Council Chamber, Merlin was stopped by the King himself.
"Servant. Merlin, correct?" He questioned as he ushered him back over.
The sorcerer blinked, but nodded sheepishly as he walked himself back. "Yes, Sire?"
Uther paused for a moment, staring at him before sighing.
"My son, he enjoys you more than he has anyone else who I have hired. Maybe even myself." He joked with an exhale.
Merlin's face creased as he frowned. "Oh, my Lord. I did not intend–"
"I know." Uther nodded, raising his hand to stop him mid-sentence.
The King slowly turned on his heel, taking small strides around the Council Chamber.
"You are very loyal, if my son is happy with your service, then I am grateful." He reassured.
Uther then stood facing Merlin.
"He must trust you." He whispered before giving his speech, studying Merlin's stance.
Then came his booming voice.
"And so, for that matter, I request something from you."
Merlin's eyes widened, clasping his hands together as he took a step forward. "Anything Sire." He bowed his head, presenting his inferiority to the King.
Uther smiled, before he spoke.
"Arthur is to be married."
The air became tight.
