Steve and You were currently walking to the World Exposition of Tomorrow, which was located in Flushing Meadows, New York. You two walked hand and hand, bumping shoulders occasionally and giggling at inside jokes. "Have we met Connie before?" Steve had asked after a few moments of silence, your arms swinging back and forth and you kept them interlaced. You hummed in thought as your brows furrowed.
"I don't think you have, she's new. But I met her once at the library. Bucky had to stop bringing Brooke on double dates with us because supposedly she was getting suspicious about the longing looks Bucky kept sending us." Your words caused Steve to let out a small laugh once again, shaking his head. "Bucky needs to get better at acting then." He replied after his laughter calmed down. A calm silence soon settled over the two of you as you continued to walk.
"I wish we didn't have to hide." You soon whispered out, Steve squeezed your hand after you spoke. You two didn't talk about it often but you know you all felt that. He sighed before pulling you closer, throwing his arm over your shoulder as you two continued to walk. "One day us three will be able to love each other in public and it not be frowned upon." After he spoke he pressed a kiss to the side of your temple. Which caused a soft blush to dust the top of your cheeks and tips of your ears. Steve prided himself in the times he could get you all flustered. It was usually Bucky who got either of you flustered, he was a flirty man who knew all the right things to say. The three of you have known one another for quite some time, you and your grandmother had moved to the neighborhood the two boys lived in, in 1924 when you were only four years old.
It was a bit of a run down area of hells kitchen, New York. But hey, it was home. Soon you three got close, Steve was only a year older than you and Bucky was two years older than you. As you got older and closer to the boys you felt this strange pull to them, they were your only friends. You had tried to make friends but it never really worked well so you gave up. You had Steve and Bucky and they were all you needed. But the pull became weird, you knew about crushes and liking someone, most of the girls around you were crazy about boys and it was that age that you should be too. But you only liked Steve and Bucky- which was weird, it should only be one you liked!
You never fell in love with anyone else besides them, and you knew soon enough that it was love. They were always so kind to you and respectful. Not like some of the other boys you had seen at school or around town. Bucky was a bit of a doll dizzy like most of the boys his age, and Steve was just his quiet self, only speaking up if he thought someone deserved respect. You had noticed that Steve had a sort of sadness in his eyes whenever Bucky talked about a dame, you knew it because you had the same. Steve was such a sweetheart and always smiled along and nodded whenever Bucky talked about girls. You never said much when they talked about them, usually you paid attention but it was like the words went through one ear and out the other.
You never noticed the longing looks Steve or Bucky sent your way, could never see the hearts in their eyes as they watched you. You did notice the love eyes they sent one another though. You thought it was cute, you didn't think it was gross like most people did. You didn't frown upon the thought of the same sex loving the same sex in the ways a man and woman should love one another.
You never understood that, love should be between people who loved one another, sex didn't matter to you. It did make you sad though, maybe they would end up together. Maybe Bucky faked liking the dames he did to try and hide fact he actually liked boys.
Soon enough you turned 14, Steve was 15 and Bucky was 16. The three of you had been sitting in Steve's small bedroom, you three mostly hung out at his house. For some reason the air felt strange around them that day, you felt this anxiety bubbling up as if they were going to drop a bomb on you, maybe something bad was going to happen. You could tell the other two were nervous, like they knew something you didn't. The three of you had sat down on the hard wood floor, soon the three of you were holding hands as Bucky proclaimed his love he felt for the both of you, he explained how confused he felt about it all. He didn't understand how it was possible to love two people at once, but he did.
