Chapter 28: The Last Lecture

A disciplinary committee was appointed to discuss the offenses of Æsh, which were plenty: disrupting an exam, stealing a motorbike; cavorting in the jungle when it was specifically prohibited. Æsh's grandmother was called in from Bali and she was persuasive in her arguments when trying to highlight Æsh's impressive grades and exemplary behaviour thus far. Principal Cheyo wholeheartedly agreed and offered an easy solution: Æsh should be permitted to graduate with his peers and write the skipped exams over the summer holidays. Despite their best efforts the committee deliberated till graduation day.

The faction met for one last time.

They gathered around Bose, with an offering in hand.

"This is for you," said Yinka to Bose. "A gift that will outlive us all."

"Outlive us?"

Yinka handed Bose a tree sapling with tiny heart-shaped leaves. "This hybrid of the Bodhi tree has a lifespan of 5000 years. Once the tree matures white flowers will bloom. Every full moon, wherever we are in the world we have agreed to send this tree a healing note, to help nurture it in the hope that it will grow six-fold. Its beauty and strength will be a testament to our commitment to your teachings. Thank you, Master Bose."

Overwhelmed, Bose said, "I am no Master, I am a mere mortal who simply redirected you to a place within where knowledge, wisdom and power already reside."

Bose called for a shovel. Ramu brought it forward and started excavating the dirt, but Bose took over, shovelling and planting the sapling himself.

Then dusting his hands he said, "Now for the last lecture."

They followed Bose to the clearing and stood facing him.

"The purpose of the study of vibrations is to learn how to become your own capacitator, your own power-pod. The purpose of this study is to learn how to become your own motherboards and provide the stimulus to yourselves."

The faction stood carefully listening.

"The sole ingredient of the stimulus is the vibration of Anahata. Does anyone know what Anahata means?"

His question was met with silence.

"Anahata is a cosmic vibration, it is un-struck, unbeaten, created without friction. It is transcendental. It cannot be interpreted through human perception, it can only be perceived by pure consciousness. It is energy that can melt all blockages and penetrate any frequency, no matter how dark or low its hum. It is energy that can permeate all - within and without."

Bose held his hand to his chest and said, "The vortex for this unstruck vibration is the heart. After you have overcome your lower nature and snuffed the black holes within ... learn to harness the energy of Anahata and lock yourself in it. That is the way to provide the stimulus to yourselves."

Bose touched his heart and spun, becoming a pink tornado. It became larger and larger as it spun faster and faster.

Over the din the faction heard him say. "The key is within."
