RAË
"Just leave what you are doing and follow me," said Neel, burning with excitement.
"What's happening?" asked Sakura.
"Æsh is happening!"
Abandoning her breakfast tray, Sakura followed Neel out of the dining hall. Nudged by curiosity, I got up from my seat and followed close behind down to the squash courts, where it was all happening.
A gathering of girls, like a collection of bouquets were sitting on top of a wall staring into the court, with undiluted attention. Syrah was at her flamingo best, with a leg curled up behind her, her gaze neatly focused on the subject below. I neared the wall and looked inside. Æsh, the lone player, competing with himself in a game of squash.
Æsh against Æsh, his expression tense as though he was wrestling with daemons. The crack of the mighty hit, the echo of his short grunts, his damp shirt clinging to the tightness in his chest. Volley after volley, he slammed the ball, as though obsessed with overcoming.
He is venting. He is purging ... but why so desperately? Why so urgently?
He missed a shot. The ball bounced back to a slow stop. Æsh stood panting, holding a painful catch by his side. He bent down to pick the ball. While standing he suddenly looked up and caught sight of me looking down at him. Like magnets, our eyes locked, we stood arrested, like frozen music for a brief moment. Then a jolt, as the smell of his pheromones infiltrated my olfactory membranes. His musk was distinct. It filled me whole, commingling with my senses.
I quivered, my heart picking up in pace. I gazed at him not knowing what had me so captivated.
I retracted from the wall, tearing my eyes off him and disappeared into the morning.
