I was on my way to Chemistry when Principal Cheyo intercepted me. "Raë, I hope you are considering the extracurricular program... I didn't see your name on the list."
"Umm ..." I searched for words, unfortunately I had caught only the tail end of the announcement. "I'll look into the details, Principal Cheyo."
"I urge you to participate."
"I'm not sure ... given it's my senior year and with all the prep I have to do for university applications ..."
Principal Cheyo had other appointments to keep but before leaving he said, "Raë, it will change your life." I had never heard Principal Cheyo speak like this. "I am certain you won't regret it," he said, disappearing into a hallway.
Strong words from a man I respected.
But I had little time for extras.
