Keep this in mind: it's all connected.

Chapter 22

A week passed by so fast. Devon was now appointed as the official heir of the Salazar Clan. The succession ceremony was not grand. Devon's parents just came by along with the necessary documents for legal purposes. They can't afford to stand out amid a big operation.

For Elijah, learning new things with Oliver and Jesse became his new hobby. Elijah took basic lessons from Oliver about painting and cooking, while Jesse taught Elijah about the basics of financial management and events arrangement.

During his free time, Devon devoted time to help Elijah with his lessons. In just a week, Elijah was equipped with the necessary skills he will need when he step out in the real world. During that time, Devon also tried his hardest to hide Elijah from Devon's parents, knowing that they will fawn over Elijah like there's no tomorrow, however, not all things are under Devon's control.

This happened on the third day of Devon's parents in the US. The two were currently staying at Stefan's guest villa because the latter did not let the two stay in a hotel.

Elijah decided to take a walk in the garden. Devon was busy discussing things with Trevor, Oliver was sleeping in with Stefan, while Jesse went back to school. It was a nice morning, the weather was great, and the sky was so blue. The cold, fresh breeze pushed against the boy's cheeks as he admired the beautiful, vibrant flowers in the garden.

Elijah stopped in his tracks when he caught a glimpse of a woman trimming the brown leaves of the white flower. Curious, Elijah went to the woman and crouched beside her.

"What are you doing?" The woman clutched her chest, startled. Elijah innocently blinked and gasped. "I am so sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."

"Oh no. I'm fine. You are so..." The woman stared at Elijah for a few seconds, her heart drumming against her chest. Gorgeous and adorable, the woman thought to herself. "I'm just picking off the dried leaves to help them grow healthier. That way, it won't affect the good leaves."

Elijah grinned and nodded, then turned to the white flower. "What is this flower called, ma'am?"

The woman blinked and chuckled. "Oh please, call me Aurora. My name is Aurora Salazar," Aurora introduced herself, then reached out her hand.

"I'm pleased to meet you, Aurora. I'm Elijah Thompson." Elijah realized that he still couldn't let others know his real surname. That would spell trouble for the people around Elijah.

Aurora nodded and smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Elijah. The flower you're referring to is a white camellia. Isn't it a beauty?" Aurora gingerly touched the petals and glanced at Elijah who hummed.

"They're so pretty. The entire garden is so beautiful." Elijah looked around the garden in a daze, then returned his attention to Aurora.

"This is the first time I saw you here. Are you Stefan's guest? I did not have any opportunity to greet you. I apologize," Elijah smiled at Aurora apologetically, but Aurora didn't mind.

"That's fine, Elijah." It looks like my son didn't have any intention to introduce you to us, Aurora wanted to add, but decided against it. She didn't want Elijah to feel uncomfortable. "By the way, did you have somewhere you need to be?"

"Not really. Devon is busy. Ollie and Jesse are not available at the moment, so I decided to take a walk. They are very kind. They were patient and entertained all of my questions without finding me an annoyance. Devon is the best, though," Elijah added, his blue eyes sparkling with adoration.
