EPILOGUE
Three weeks later,
Devon's Mansion
New YorkWith a sour expression, Elijah ran to the bathroom and into the sink when he felt his stomach turning upside down. The acidic tang exploded in his mouth and before he knew it, he was puking helplessly, his hands gripping on the edge of the sink.
Weak and tired, Elijah cleaned his mess and gargled the vomit away, then wipes his mouth. His eyes burned with unshed tears and feeling so scared and alone, Elijah sobbed softly on the rim of the tub.
Devon, who just finished cooking their breakfast, decided to check up on Elijah and the soft, broken sobs were not what he was expecting to hear. "Sunshine? Where are you?" Devon's voice was urgent and dripping with worry as he scanned the room, looking for Elijah.
Hearing Devon's voice, Elijah's sobs got louder and the tears overflowed. "D-Dev! Dev!" Clutching the hem of his pajama top, Elijah scrambled on his feet and when the bathroom door opened wide, revealing Devon who was sweating bullets with an expression filled with so much concern, Elijah's chest squeezed tight and the need to be within Devon's arms got stronger.
It only took two large strides for Devon to reach Elijah and with a fluid motion, Devon scooped Elijah as the latter wrapped his arms around Devon's neck. "What happened, baby? Do you hurt somewhere?" Devon looked around the bath and the sink was still wet and the towel unfolded.
"Dev... I don't feel so good and I puked. I'm sick," Elijah sobbed out and the thought scared Devon for a second, but then he remembered that Elijah stopped drinking his pills three weeks ago. The fear was immediately replaced by elation as Devon stepped out of the bathroom and sat on the foot of the bed, Elijah straddling Devon's lap.
Elijah resurfaced from Devon's neck and frowned at Devon's stupid grin. "Why are you smiling, Dev?" Elijah gasped at the realization. "You're happy that I'm sick, right?" Devon blinked slowly at Elijah's accusation but Devon did not stop Elijah. It was amusing that way. "Because then you'll find someone who's not a crybaby and someone who is not sick. I hate you, Dev! I don't like you anymore!" Elijah cried out and struggled free from Devon's embrace but Devon is strong. The struggle was futile.
"Sunshine, don't you know how adorable you are? Every single day, you get more gorgeous and it makes me realize how lucky I am to have you," Devon said softly and gently wiped Elijah's tears.
Elijah stopped squirming and blushed softly at Devon's compliments. "No kidding? I'm gorgeous? I'm your gorgeous sunshine?" Elijah confirmed adorably and sniffled, Elijah's lashes fluttering shyly.
Devon's smile stretched into a thrilled grin. "Absolutely, baby. Also, before I tell you the reason why I'm so happy, how about we go downstairs and have some breakfast? I made a smoothie, a plate full of our favorite cookies, fried some bacon, and your favorite spicy chicken. I also added a bowl of vegetable salad and some soup."
Elijah nodded, his mouth watered at the variety of delicious dishes that Devon mentioned. "Can I have a mango cake, Dev? I'm craving for some." Elijah has been craving some tropical fruits since yesterday, but Elijah was not able to pinpoint what kind of fruit.
"Also, I prefer a creamy, mango smoothie. Oh, oh, a mango graham shake is also good. I saw it online. It looks delicious! I also want a mango graham cheesecake and a mango gelato!" Elijah added excitedly and the gleam in Devon's eyes brightened.
