Chapter 16

morning,
Devon's Place

Elijah woke up feeling fresh and light. No nightmares haunted him ever since Devon slept with him, and he couldn't be more thankful. Speaking of Devon, Elijah has not seen Devon since he woke up, and he was so close to panicking if not for the note on top of Elijah's clothes, sitting on the chair beside the bed.

He picked up the note.

Hey, sunshine. Good morning. I'm cooking our breakfast downstairs, so why don't you get ready? Take a bath and dress up. I have a surprise for you.

Dev

Elijah blinked several times to make sure his eyes are not playing with him. After a few seconds, Elijah was sure that he read the note correctly. Feeling so thrilled, Elijah ran to the bathroom.

Even if the shower was tempting him so badly, Elijah remembered Devon's surprise. He loves surprises. Lany was best at giving Elijah a surprise. When Lany passed away, it was Ryzel who spoiled Elijah to death.

After a few minutes, Elijah reached for the soft towel and fluffy robe, his eyes widening and his hand covered his mouth to muffle his scream when he realized the design of the robe. It was Perry embroidered on the bottom left of the robe.

"Perry!!"

Devon who was busy whisking a recipe for buttermilk cornbread in the kitchen shook his head and smiled. "That's not even a part of my surprise yet, sunshine."

"Hey, hey. Focus. How's the plan?" Trevor inquired impatiently, glaring at Devon through his iPad.

"Don't worry. My men patrolled the area earlier. We'll be safe."

Trevor nodded and tapped his chin with his index finger. "To be on the safest side, I'll deploy five snipers around the place," Trevor said and started calling agents.

When Devon opened his phone earlier, he was bombarded by Trevor's death threats and he spent one hour of intense interrogation from Trevor and his Nonna.

Two hours ago,

Hey, fucker. You better connect your device to the internet or I will gut you and I will feed your entrails to my new piranhas.

That's the first message Devon read. As he opened messages after messages, Devon turned pale and he almost threw his phone but decided against it because of Trevor's threat that echoed in his mind.

When normal friends send you a text like that, a hundred percent of the time, you'll likely ignore it and dismiss them as crazy, but in Devon's case, Trevor is not like that.

Back when they were in high school, Trevor ordered him to come to the main house in thirty minutes, but Devon being the lazy teen that he was, got late for almost twenty minutes. Five minutes later, Devon found himself dangling over a large aquarium of sharks.

Since then, Devon has ingrained in his mind that when Trevor means business, it means business. Now, he is being drilled by questions by none other than Satan himself. It's not rude. Trevor earned that reputation at an early age, and Trevor really enjoys instilling fear in other people.

"What's your excuse this time, Primo?" Devon blanched when Trevor used his second name. Trevor never does that unless he's pissed, or Trevor is about to dangle him over a cliff or over the man's piranhas.
