Daniel has been out of the country for several days now and Charlotte has been at Emily's house from the very moment that Daniel stepped foot into the car and drove to the airport. She has practically been a nurse for Emily. Lately, Emily has been sick and always running to the bathroom. Neither of them know why but Emily refuses to go to the doctors. Emily was still not eating as often as she should be and it was starting to really concern Charlotte. But every attempt, to get Emily to eat, that Charlotte made was disregarded. A few times Emily even yelled at Charlotte.
If you glanced out the window the day was bright and full of warmth. The sun shown directly above Emily's beach house and there were about a dozen families sitting on the beach watching their children swim. Emily sat on her living room couch staring out the window. She wondered if she should try to actually do something today. Charlotte was taking a bath in the downstairs bathroom. She kept the door cracked open in case Emily needed her. As Emily sat there she could hear Charlotte humming as she relaxed.
"You alright out there, Emily?" She yelled checking that Emily was still there.
"I'm fine Charlotte just take your bath." Emily replied.
After almost 20 minutes of Emily listening to the same tune being hummed over and over by Charlotte, Charlotte came walking out of the bathroom with her dirty clothes in one hand and her hair put up in a towel.
"Do you mind if I just throw these in with your laundry?"
"Oh, no, please go for it." Emily said, her gaze never leaving the window.
"Ok, then. I'll be right back." Charlotte ran to the laundry room and then came back down and sat with Emily. She noticed that she was just staring out the window. "Do you want to go for a walk? Some fresh air might do you and the baby some good." She smiled.
"No, thank you. I'm still not feeling too well."
"Emily, I think that you should go in and get checked out. You shouldn't be like this, this far along. What are you like, almost seven months?"
"Yes. I'm actually a little over seven months."
"See all the more reason why you should get things checked out, Ems." Emily just shook her head.
"Charlotte, you know I hate doctors. And besides I'm fine. It's probably just morning sickness. Sometimes you still get it this far into the pregnancy." Emily looked to Char and smiled trying to assure her that everything was fine.
Charlotte stood and went into the kitchen. "I'm going to make us both some lunch. What would you like?"
"Actually, Charlotte," Emily stood and slowly walked over to the dinning table. "I was thinking that today you should go home. See your family. You've done so much for me that I think you should have one day off."
"Uh-uh Emily. I'm not leaving you. Daniel asked me to look after you. Leaving you home alone would not be looking after you now would it?" Ems just sighed.
"Charlotte I am serious. I know that I need some time alone and I think that you should have time alone as well. Now go. I don't need you here. You can come back tomorrow morning, promise." Emily said and gave a little smile.
Charlotte thought long and hard with her hands on her hips. "Promise?" She finally said.
"Promise."
"Alright, fine. You win. I guess I do need to take some time to see my family. But expect me early tomorrow morning because I will be back." She said pointing a finger to Emily. "Let me just grab a few things and I'll leave." Charlotte ran upstairs to the guest room and packed a small bag of some of her necessities.
