"Greed. They call you that because you're greedy, or because you bring out the greediness of others?"

The homunculus grinned, pushing his sunglasses down to the bridge of his nose so that he could look [y/n] directly in the eye.

"The former, sweetie. I get what I want, when I want it. Lavish style like this isn't easy to come by, you know. Besides, when I have all of the world's riches, I can buy myself whatever I want." He gestured to the gaudily decorated room around them, grinning all the while at [y/n]. She simply snorted in disgust and looked down with some distaste at the manacles that were attached to her wrists and ankles. The ankles ones were loose, allowing her feet to move, but the cuffs on her wrists were just intended to lock her arms in one position so that she would be able o perform any alchemy.

"Why the scowl, [y/n]?" Greed asked, noting her irritated expression.

"I think, homunculus," she spat, [e/c] eyes blazing, "That you wouldn't be so happy either were you in my position."

He leaned back in his chair. "No, I suppose I wouldn't. But then again, there is one big difference between you and me." The man stood up slowly walking over to her. When he grew close enough he tracked a finger across her jawline, and [y/n] had to force herself not to flinch.

Greed leaned down next to her, his lips against her ear. "I'm not the one imprisoned."

This tine [y/n] couldn't keep back the shudder of fear and hatred. He noticed, and frowned.

"Now now little alchemist, no need to be afraid. I don't want to hurt you." Despite his words, [y/n] could hear the implied message- if she didn't do what he wanted,,she would get hurt. "But what I do want... Is you." He walked around her, staring her down as if surveying a prized animal. "And I always get what I want. I am the embodiment of Greed, after all."

She looked up at him, her question obvious in her eyes. Greed chuckled slightly. "Alchemists, alchemists, always so controlled by the law of equivalent exchange. Very well- I will make you a deal. If you agree to stay here, by my side, I will agree to not harm any of your friends, and even aid them if you wish it. Are those terms acceptable?"

[y/n] hesitated.

"Oh don't worry, you don't need to decide now. I'll give you an hour or so to think it over." He went to leave, but her muffled voice halted him in is tracks.

"I'll stay here. With you," she whispered before she could fully take in what she was doing. "But you have to uphold your end of the deal."

His black hair tossed as he threw back his head and laughed. "I agree to the terms. Now come on out, [y/n]." He reached into his pocket and took out a silver key, setting himself to the task of unlocking her manacles. The woman bowed her head, attempting to hide her unshed tears.

If this is what it takes to save my friends, she thought miserably, then this is what I'll do.

*. *. *. *. *.

It had been a year since she had made the decision to live with Greed. What surprised [y/n] most, though, wasn't the kindness that he treated her with or the way that he truly seemed to care about how she felt. It was the fact that she was actually content here, with the homunculus.

Greed had kept his word, too. He hadn't interfered in the plans of the Elric brothers at her insistence, and had even gone so far as to aid them in their quest. [y/n] had at first marveled about his frank honesty and willingness to listen to her, but had soon gotten used to it all. Even his ultimate goals- to obtain all of the riches in the world and become fully immortal- hadn't seemed so petty and shallow as she had learned more about him.

Either way, she was perfectly content the way that she was. Greed did always get what he wanted, after all, and what he wanted was her. There was something about that feeling- the feeling of being wanted, being needed by another being- that always seemed to startle [y/n], as well as making her grateful, in a sense to Greed.

It seemed to her, as she lay curled up next to him on your giant bed, that she actually had developed an attachment to Greed. She didn't know when or how it had happened, or when she had realized her true feelings. Maybe it had started with the slight fluttering in her chest every time he entered the room, or the small an secretive smiles that she seemed to share with him at times. He made her feel needed, and loved, and even though he had his greedy tendencies and faults, she could live with that. I'd already made my choice, [y/n] thought as she curled closer to Greed's warm body. I'd just come to peace with it.
