You picked irritatedly at your shirt, mentally cursing your stupidity for what was probably the hundredth time in just the past five minutes. Why didn't you bring a jacket? Why didn't you check the weather? Why had you worn such light clothing?

And, more importantly, why the fuck did you have to choose today to leave your train pass at home?

"Oh but [y/n], it's such lovely weather today!" You mentally mimicked yourself. "You don't need to ride the light rail!"

Just look where that'd gotten you.

It'd been a particularly gloomy day, and even for someone of your normally sunny disposition this was just a bit too much. The pitter patter of raindrops above your head caused a sigh to escape your lips. It wasn't that it was raining all that hard, per say, but it was cold- and by the time you got back to your apartment building you'd be soaked.

Well, the only way to get it over with was to get it done. (Unless, of course, someone happened to invent a teleportation device sometime in the next thirty seconds. That'd be terribly convenient.) You inhaled, bracing yourself for a mad dash, when you felt the tap on your left shoulder.

It took all of your self control not to immediately jump straight in the air. As it was, you settled for an indignant squawking noise.

[E/c] eyes brightened considerably, however, when you saw who stood patiently behind you.

"Akaashi! It's good to see you." The smile that lit up your face perfectly sincere. Akaashi lived in the same apartment building as you and always walked to work- never using the train or his little car- so you'd at least have some company on your miserable jaunt home.

"Likewise." His lips curved upwards slightly, and your smile grew. Although never flamboyant, you adored his little smiles and mannerisms. They never failed to bring a grin to your own face, or brighten your mood. Case in point? Just now.

Your hand reached out to tug lightly at the sleeve of his raincoat (he, apparently, had come prepared). "C'mon, we'd best get back to the apartments. Then you can come over to my place and we'll drink hot chocolate and warm up and have a movie binge."

"Isn't it Thursday?"

"So?"

He shrugged. "Nevermind."

Taking that as agreement, you turned around, steeling yourself for a moment before stepping straight into the deluge, Akaashi at your heels. The fat wet drops soaked through your thin shirt almost instantly, and by the time the pair of you had reached the end of the block you were shivering, rubbing your arms in an attempt to get rid of the goosebumps. Despite the fact that you were practically jogging, it didn't seem to get any warmer.

Akaashi frowned as he glanced sideways, wiping away a few stray drops of water that had landed on the bridge of his nose. You looked absolutely, horrifically miserable. Rather like a wet cat. A very pretty, very bedraggled, wet cat.

With a sigh that was part affection, part amusement the brunette quickly slipped off his raincoat, offering it to you.

You looked up at him through wet [h/c] strands, surprise written on every feature of your face. "What?"

The brunette frowned, looking away slightly. "Take it."

"But I can't-"

"Take it."

Your lips pursed slightly, as if you wanted to refuse again, but finally the cold won out and you relented, taking the dark green jacket from Akaashi and zipping it up as quickly as you could.

It was surprisingly warm, and smelled like Akaashi. Not that you knew what he smelled like, of course. Of course not. But it certainly smelled good.

The pair walked in companionable silence for a moment before you peeked at him, smiling a little.

"You're really sweet, y'know. You try to act all distant, but inside you're just a big softie."

He started, and despite his best efforts Akaashi could feel his face turning red. He didn't particularly want you to see this, of course, so he was left with the next obvious course of action (one he utterly despised, but found necessary in certain situations): to do what Bokuto would have done.

So he pulled your hood down over your face, quickly pulling the zipper up as far as it would go (he'd really never thought the full face hood on his jacket would be useful, but the world did tend to move in strange circles).

A startled yelp escaped your lips and you jumped backwards in surprise, nearly numb fingers fumbling with the zipper.

"What did you- Ack!" A muffled squeak could be heard as you slipped backwards into the large puddle at your feet, arms flailing wildly as you tried (and failed) to keep your precarious balance.

In an effort to save you from your watery fate Akaashi jumped forwards, attempting to grab you, but one of your arms latched onto his own as you tried to pull yourself back up. The effect was that he was pulled into the puddle right next to you, completely soaking the front of his clothes.

As he looked up, you'd managed to pull the zipper down and remove the hood from your head. While by all rights you should've been angry, or frustrated, your eyes were lit with childish joy, and your beautiful [e/c] eyes met his; a wide smile nearly splitting your face in two as you splashed muddy puddle water in his direction.

And because by any logical reasoning you two should have been upset, and because the rain was still falling from the sky in big wet drops that were soaking the pair of you to the bone and because he was with you and for some reason unknown he found it all unbearably funny, Akaashi threw back his head and he laughed.

*. *. *. *. *.

"...Well, it looks like I've just... fallen for you."

"[Y/n], you completely ruined the moment."

"Don't judge me, I'm using the tools I was given. Handed, rather. On a silver platter."

"...That's really not any better..."
