Jewel's POV

8am in Dauntless is like the graveyard shift. Nobody is up. As I make my way to Eric's office a nervous cyclone of anxiety rises in my chest and sends tingles through out my body. I wonder what he will make me do.

As I approach, I see that the door is closed. Hesitantly, I knock lightly. For a moment, I think that he didn't hear but the door opens suddenly, making me gasp. "You're early." He says with disgust as he eyes me up and down. "Better than being late." He opens the door wider, indicating for me to walk in.

As I do, my right shoulder skims his chest. The touch sends electricity through my body and I immediately step farther away from him. He doesn't seem to notice. "I need you to file all this paper away." He motions to large stacks of files in his desk. "In alphabetical order." He continues.

"That seems easy enough." I say hopeful. Eric's eyes narrow at the comment. "It's busy work. Shit I didn't want to do." My eyebrows pull in and I'm suddenly on the defense. "So you're making me do this because you're too lazy?"

Instead of lashing out at me, like I think he will, he remains calm. He moves closer to me. "I could help you with fighting. Maybe you wouldn't lose all the time." Wow. Way to make a subject change. I'm still feeling fiesty, but when I say my next words, I immediately regret them. "Four can help me."

This time he doesn't stay calm. He gets in my face. His fists clenched. "Don't fuckin disrespect me. I'm your superior." I step back but he steps with me. I fiddle with my fingers and try not to make eye contact with him.

"I was just saying that since Four is an instructor he probably has more time to help me." Some tension seases from his jaw line and just for a moment his eyes scan up and down my body. I am an animal of prey to him. "I will help you." His tone is final. I nod my head. He steps back, still gazing intensely.

"I have to go now but when I come back I expect those files to be sorted." Looking to him is my answer and when he leaves I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
