Chapter 35

**

Scarlett

Pain.

The first thing I felt when my body started waking up was pain. It felt sore and uncomfortable. My face felt swollen like a potato. At first, I was confused with my condition, but like a movie, the past event flew in my mind, making me cringe many times. The adrenaline of saving myself blocked all kinds of rational thoughts on how would it feel when my mind and body comes down from its high. It was not pretty at all.

I groaned lightly as I tried to adjust my body in a way that would hurt less, but any movement I make would send agonising pain down my body. You won't understand the pain until after you sleep. It gets worst and worst.

Slowly, I preyed my eyes open and blinked a couple of times to wash away the darkness but it stayed. For a minute, I panicked. I thought I lost my eyesight, but relaxed when after giving a couple of minutes to adjust to the darkness, I could faintly see everything. Once I was assured that my eyes are working properly, I tried to look at my surroundings. I have definitely been to this place as my back laid comfortably on a soft bed with fluffy covers raised upto my chin. The familiar scent of cologne that only emits from Ethan confirmed my suspicions that I was, in fact, in Ethan's room.

I glanced around the room and my eyes zeroed on the close window. My eyes widen and I snapped my head in the direction of the door, hoping for it to be open. When I found it close, I started hyperventilating and attempted to move and open the door. My breath came out in short pants, hurting my lungs and puting pressure on all the crampy muscles, increasing the pain tenfold. I fisted my hand to my chest and pushed my legs off the bed to stand up. But since I was hurting and panicking, my legs gave out from underneath me making me fall to the ground.

A scream tore from my mouth as I was taken back to the time where I use to be locked in the attic. I could see myself banging the door, begging my parents to let me out. I could feel the tears streaming down my cheeks as I convert myself into a ball on the floor just beside the attic door. My head started to hurt due to the lack of oxygen and prayed for someone to pull me out of my misery. Just then, the door burst open and rushed in Ethan. As soon as my eyes connected with him, I sighed in relief.

"Scarlett!" He exclaimed loudly in shock and rushed towards me. He took me in his arms where I sobbed.

"You kept the doors closed." I cried as I hugged him tightly.

I felt him move and look around. "I'm so sorry."

"Don't leave me, please." I begged, clenching his t-shirt in a fist.

"I won't leave you." He promised.

"C-Can you open the windows?" I asked as I slightly pulled away from him to look at him and noticed his family standing behind, staring at me in concern.

Ethan didn't say anything for a long time and finally when he did, my heart stopped. "No. And," he turned his head to his family and said, "Can you please leave and close the door behind you."

"W-What?" I stuttered, shaking my head frantically.

"She is scared, Ethan. You can't-" Blake started in disbelief.

"I said go, Blake. I know what I'm doing." He ended the conversation there as he turned to me.

I shook my head at him and then at the retreating figures. "I can't-" I stopped and tried to push away from Ethan as a tear of betrayal left my eyes followed by a pool of them. I frantically tried to get away from him and move to the door, but he stopped me each time. The only source of light was blocked by the close door.
