Chapter 36

**

Ethan

The streaming light of sun fell into the room through the open window, shinning on my face making me warm. Presence of someone next to me was the second thing I notice and it became more prominent when they moved.

I wasn't surprised nor was I not expecting anyone beside me. I clearly remember every single event from last night, making my body relax in content. I pulled the body next to me closer and snuggled with it. I heard a soft sigh and smiled with my eyes close. My hand unconscious rubbed her back in comfort.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and the first thing they saw was Scarlett's sleeping face. There was a small droll at the corner of her lips, her messy hair occupy the area behind on my arm. Her mouth slightly open to release air and her one leg thrown over my legs. Both her hands were under her head which was resting on my arm. They were numb by being in this position for a long time, but I didn't mind.

The smile that graced my face fell as my eyes focused on the hurt part of her face. The bruises were more visible and turned into an ugly yellow and purple colour. The beautiful, clear skin was covered in scars, emanating a strong desire to bash the faces of the people who did this. I hope Gwen finds those bastard before I lose my shit and do something no one would appreciate.

Instead of dwelling more on that matter, I decided to shove that in the back of my mind for a short period and focus on Scarlett. I was supposed to take her on a date, but with her being hurt, that cannot be possible. Scarlett may not be that excited for this date, but I could see it in her eyes that she was looking forward to it. Events of last might have taken a toll on her and I was sure as soon as she wakes up, her mind will replay the happenings and constantly remind her of the danger she is in.

I decided to take that worry away for the time being and give her something to actually think about. I can't take her out on a date but that does not mean I can't bring the date to her. With that thought in mind, I carefully pulled away from Scarlett and got out of bed. I needed help from my family if I want to execute my plan.

I stepped down the last stair and made my way to the dining room where I knew everyone would be. As expected, everyone was seated around the table, along with Leslie and Zach, our cousins– Aunt Benny and Uncle Ben's children.

"Morning." I greeted everyone and stood near the table next to Max.

One by one everyone wished their share of greetings before coming to the main topic. "How is Scarlett?" Aunt Benny asked.

"Scarlett?" A confuse Zach asked his mother.

"Ethan's girlfriend." Will greedily spoke, not allowing anyone to say anything else. I glared at him for his tease before giving him a finger which earned me a lot of glares.

"She's not his girlfriend. She rejected him, remember?" Nate chortled.

"My girlfriend is fine. She is still sleeping." I said, emphasizing on girlfriend and glaring at Nate now.

"That's good. I'll come to check her after breakfast." Aunt Benny informed. I nodded in response.

Just then Mary-Ann appeared. I quickly asked her to prepare a small tray with breakfast that I can take up to my room. Confused as she is unaware of the wounded woman upstairs, she prepared as asked and handed it to me. While she prepared for the breakfast, I told my family about the plan for our date. A lot of them shared smirks and a lot of them teased me as well. Each time, I rolled my eyes and dismissed them with a shake of my hand.

With the tray in hand, I headed upstairs hoping for Scarlett to be still sleeping. But of course, she sat wide awake, staring out of the window. I tapped the door to not startle her with my sudden arrival. She snapped her head in my direction and moved down to the tray in my hand.
