Chapter 40

**

Ethan

I woke up with a smile.

Before I had a chance to open my eyes, I was already smiling. Last night felt so unreal. Not only did Scarlett confess her feelings for me, she made the first move to address it and talk about it. This means she was finally opening up to the thought of have a real relationship with me.

We slept together again with the title of Friends With Benefits, but I think yesterday was more than that. Though, we did not make our relationship exclusive, it was an unsaid label now. Having her admit is a hard step, so I am just going to stick to it as an unsaid exclusive relation. It's better than nothing.

I shifted in my position to throw an arm around Scarlett and pull her close, but was met with air. Furrowing my eyebrows, I searched the area next to me, but found it to be empty.

Finally with startle, I opened my eyes. I looked over to my other side and found the bed empty. The sheets were wrinkled, evidence that it was used and the side felt warm meaning that it hasn't been long before she woke up.

My eyes roamed around the room to search for a certain dark hair but she was nowhere in the room, nor was she in the bathroom as the door was open all the way.

Before I had a chance to panic and go rummage, the door to the bedroom opened and walked in Scarlett holding a tray in her hand. She paused as soon as her eyes came in contact with mine. A frown covered her face as she took slow steps inside.

"I was hoping for you to still be sleeping." She muttered, audible enough for me to hear. "I wanted to surprise you with breakfast in bed."

My eyebrows shot up. "You wanted to surprise me?"

She nodded. "It has always been you who does that for me. I wanted to take the initiative and bring breakfast to you."

"But you are hurt." I argued. "I don't expect you to do that."

She huffed and placed the tray on my lap. I was still naked underneath the duvet. "Exactly why I wanted to do this."

I smiled at her scowling expression and leaned forward to wrap my arms loosely around her. "What did you have in mind?"

"Well," she began, her annoyance melting. "I was hoping for you to be asleep so I could wake you up with a kiss."

"Hmm. And?"

"And if you still don't wake up, then maybe use some other method or some other place to kiss you." She finished, her cheeks flushing red.

"Ohh." I teased as I made a 'o' face. "Now that is something I would have been glad to be woken up with."

She rolled her eyes and pushed me away. "It's not going to happen now since you are already up and moving."

"I can go back to pretending." I offered, making a slight move to sleep.

"No." She denied. Oh, her favourite vocabulary.

"Fine. Next time." I feigned a dejected sigh.

"There's a lot of next time with you." She pointed. I shrugged and grabbed the glass of juice to take a sip.

We completed our breakfast with light conversations and a lot of teasing. After eating, I pushed Scarlett to bed and ordered her to stay there until she heals fully and is back on her feet to work. I have delayed her healing process but not anymore.

For days, I argued with Scarlett to rest as I would always find her on her feet roaming around the house and also going as far as stepping out to play a game of football with the boys. I was happy that she was mingling with my family and getting familiar with them, but not at the risk of her health. We had our differences which resulted in Scarlett not talking to me or blatantly ignoring me. During this time, I would find her laughing with my mom or gossiping with my sister. Sophia and Marisa have formed a close bond with Scarlett as well, since I find the three coped together in the threatre room talking and laughing.
