I'm sitting in the Grill, surprisingly not a glass of bourbon in front of me, like usual, but a normal mug of coffee... which is only slightly spiked.

Jenna : Coffee? That doesn't suit you.

I turn around and see Jenna looking at me with that same, hateful glare she had the other day.

Sam : Lately, I do a lot of things that don't suit me.

Jenna : For example?

Sam : Acting like a total dick to you. Or getting into a fight with Jeremy. Jenna, I'm so-

But she cuts me off.

Jenna : Save it, Sam. I don't want to hear any of that. It's over, and that's your own fault.

Sam : I know. And, to be honest, I don't even want to have this kind of relationship with you any longer.

Jenna : You made that perfectly clear already. Good day, Sam.

She wants to leave, but I jump over the booth and land in front of her.

Sam : Maybe my wording wasn't the best. I think you deserve a man that could actually love you. Wholeheartedly. I won't be that man. But I don't want to see you glaring at me every time we meet. Let me make it up to you somehow. I don't want a second chance, I only want for you not to hate me.

She hesitates a bit, then shrugs her shoulders.

Jenna : Fine, I wouldn't have given you a second chance anyway. I'm interested in someone else now.

A small smirk forms on my face.

Sam : You mean the new history teacher, right?

Jenna : How do you know that?

Sam : Just a feeling. But, for what it's worth, I think you two would make quite a cute couple.

She's quiet for a bit, then smiles.

Jenna : I think so too. Maybe he's not as much of an ass as Logan... or you.

I grab my heart as if I've been stabbed.

Sam : That hurts. I know I deserve it, but it still hurts.

I can see the faintest of smiles on her face.

Sam : I wish you good luck then. Goodbye, Jenna.

I'm about to walk away, but when I'm at the door, I hear her calling my name.

Jenna : Sam.

Sam : Yes?

Jenna : Just so you know, I don't hate you as much today as I did yesterday.

I smile and nod my head.

Sam : Let's see what tomorrow brings, then.

I walk into Mystic Falls High School, seeing Jeremy, somebody who I've wronged just as much as Jenna when emotionless, talking to Alaric Saltzman, half teacher, half vampire-hunter.

They talk about Jeremy's school work when I approach them.

Jeremy: My family. I found a journal of an ancestor who lived in the 1800s. And the Gilberts were one of the original Founding Families of Mystic Falls. So...

Alaric: That sounds good.

That's when I appear in front of them, both looking at me in surprise. Jeremy, because we're not exactly on the best of terms right now. Alaric, because I know of his dirty, little secret.

Alaric : Mr. Salvatore, is there something I can help you with?

Sam : No, I was hoping to have a talk with Jeremy.
