I thought I was being smart. I stayed away from trouble at the tomb, made others do my dirty work, used my brain instead of my muscles for once. Just once. And what happens the one time I wanted to play smart on everyone...?
Sheila is dead. Bonnie went to stay at her aunt's. And me? I'm here at Elena's, because Bonnie won't answer my calls.
Elena and I are sitting on the porch swing outside of her house, her journal laid out on her lap and her phone up to her ear as she leaves Bonnie a voicemail. Looks like I'm not the only one she's avoiding.
Elena: Hey, Bonnie, it's me just checking in, seeing how you're doing. We miss you here. Don't let your aunt drive you too crazy.
Jenna walks up onto the porch and stops to look at Elena and I while sipping her coffee, handing me a cup as well, to which I nod at her thankfully.
Elena: Come home soon. We love you.
She hangs up.
Jenna: What are you two doing out here? It's cold.
Elena: Thinking, writing, making sure Sam doesn't do anything stupid.
Now normally, I would give a sarcastic remark to that, but I just can't, all the thought's swirling around my mind concerning only one topic... Bonnie.
Elena : The, uh, funeral for Bonnie's grandma, it brought back a lot about mom and dad. I was wondering...you said that you would do some digging about them, the adoption.
Jenna: Right.
Elena: So did you? Dig?
Jenna: Come on inside.
Elena stands up, when both their eyes fall onto me.
Elena : You, uh, wanna come inside too?
Standing up as well, I just shake my head.
Sam : That's family business. Thanks for the coffee, Jenna. I'll return the cup another time, if that's fine with you.
Jenna : Yeah, sure.
I bid my farewell and walk off, still only thinking about Bonnie.

Stefan called me later, telling me about Alaric's ex-wife, the one Damon killed, possibly being Elena's biological mother.
Since I had to return Jenna's cup anyway, I'm now in Elena's room with Stefan.
Elena is putting away clothes in her drawer. Stefan stands behind her as they discuss this new turn of events, me laying on her bed.
Stefan: Alaric's wife might have been your mother?
Elena: It can't be true, right? I mean, the coincidence alone is just crazy.
Sam : There are no coincidences in Mystic Falls, Elena.
She looks at me for a second, nodding along. Then she turns around to look at Stefan and holds up the post-it note.
Elena : I have the address for her friend Trudie.
Stefan: You wanna talk to her.
Elena: I don't know. I...I--I don't know. If it's true and they are the same person, that means that my birth mother is dead, and I don't know if I could handle that.
Stefan: Elena, did Jenna tell you anything about Alaric's wife? How she died?
What kind of question is that? If Jenna would know about Damon killing her, we'd have a whole other problem at hand.
