Chapter 28 Part 1 (Next Shift)

Casey was looking around the space where he had been trapped. By an enormous stroke of luck, none of the debris had hit him. He kept looking around trying to find a way out when the Chief radioed him. "Casey, I just got a call from the hospital Dawson's in labor." Casey's eyes widened. "Okay Chief but I'm trapped under some rubble here and I can't find a way out." Casey said into his radio. "Casey we'll get you out." He said. After about an hour Casey was finally free and he started to run out of the building. "Casey!" Brett called. "Come on! We'll give you a ride I the ambulance we have to check you out anyway after being in all that rubble."

Casey ran into Dawson's room. "Gabby!" He said. She looked up. "Matt!" She said looking relieved. Casey ran over and kissed her. "I'm so sorry it took me so long to get here I-" Gabby cut him off. "I heard what happened. It's okay. I'm so glad you're alright. That's all I care about. You're alright and you're here. That's all that matters." Then she leaned forward and kissed him again.

Chapter 28 Part 2 (The Hospital)

Casey was standing there looking at his daughter through the glass window of the hospital nursery. A man he didn't know walked up behind him. "Which one's yours?" The man asked. "She is." He said pointing to Leslie who was squirming in her little plastic crib. "She's beautiful." The man said. "What's her name?" Asked the man. "Thank you. Her name is Leslie." Casey said looking back at his daughter and smiling. "Mine is over there in the corner. His name is Trevor." The man said smiling at his son. "That's nice." Casey told him. They both stood there just staring at their children.

Casey was still standing there staring at Leslie when Boden walked up. "Hey Casey." He said in his gruff voice. "It's an amazing feeling isn't it?" He asked Casey putting his hands in his shoulders. Casey looked back at him and smiled. "Yeah." He said. "I can just look at her face all day and never get bored. I can't even describe it." Casey said smiling wider and wider the more he talked about her. "I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same way when Terrance was born. I still feel that way." Boden told him. "I hope this feeling never goes away...I can't stop smiling." Casey said chuckling. "Yeah I know....How's Gabby doing?" He asked. "She's doing great she's sleeping right now." Casey told him. "That's good. She needs her rest eighteen hours is a long time." Boden said to Casey.
