C H A P T E R S E V E N || ALL OF MY KINDESS IS TAKEN FOR WEAKNESS
♕♡♕
A post-it note told me Derek already left for work. Groaning, I rolled over and tried to read the rest of his chicken scratch. I grabbed my glasses off the nightstand and tried to decode his stupid words.
Dinner at my father’s tonight.
I should have known it wasn’t worth reading. Three days have passed since our dinner fiasco and we’ve held minimal conversation. Not like, we had much to begin with, but Derek seemed to dip out every time I came around and I didn’t have much to say to him. I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes, hoping that when I opened them I would be at my mother’s house. Unfortunately, I still faced the beautiful room.
What a bitch.
As I hobbled around in the shower, I decided that I wasn’t going to let the other night bother me anymore. It happened and it’s over; it still stings, and I will never understand Derek’s mind, but I couldn’t keep fretting over it. The warm water kissed my skin as I stood in the shower and for once, I was feeling confident. I wanted to conquer the day, and although I didn’t know what or where, I was going to do it.

“Anna, you’re in a mess.” My mother laughed as I unloaded her groceries. She wiped her hands on a dishrag as she finished her dishes and shook her head at me.
“Oh, I know mother. It just doesn’t add up. I know you don’t like me talking about my drinking, but I’ve never drunken that much.” I sighed as I put her fruits in the fridge.
“Honey, you were in Vegas, maybe the drinks were stronger?” She asked curiously. “I loved Vegas, I would get so-“ I glared at her and she pushed her hair behind her tiny head. “Well, I remembered a majority of it the next day.” She shrugged.
“Mom, I’m going to be honest, I made a bad decision, but I didn’t think I would end up with Derek.” I groaned. We stood in the small kitchen discussing my current affairs and talking about neighborhood gossip.
“Are you saying something was in your drink?” She asked curiously. My head snapped in her direction at her remark, thinking it through.
“I don’t know. It’s a huge accusation to make.”
“Not against Derek, sweetie.” She sighed. “Did someone try to hit on you at the club?”
“I don’t think so.” I shrugged. “I don’t remember much about the night, just going and then waking up next to Derek.” I shuddered.
“So when am I going to meet him?”
“When hell freezes over.” I huffed.
“Honey, I think it’s only right I meet your husband.” She said, batting her eyelashes at me. Rolling my eyes, I folded the brown paper bags and set them under the sink.
“Don’t play that card.” I warned. “He’s not anything to worry about.”
“You know, there’s a blurred line between love and hate.” She smiled. Shaking my head, I crossed my arms over my chest and sighed.
“I’ll bring him to dinner tomorrow night.” She grinned at this and wrapped me in a giant hug.
“That’s what I like to hear.”
