"Ace."
"Yeah, dad?" I looked up at him from my breakfast and found him already staring intently at me. He was silent for a few seconds before he spoke, "your mother told me about Ivy."
"I know I should've told you but I didn't know how to. I didn't want to ruin things between you and Mr Re—" he cut me off by showing me his palm, "I've heard enough."
"Dad, I—" I was cut off by him again, this time his voice was a bit more strict which was very unusual, "I said I've heard enough."
I glanced at my mother shot me a reassuring look. I looked back at my father. I heard him let out a sigh, "listen, Ace, my—" he paused, shaking his head, "our company's at risk here. Now, I love you and I won't tell you to marry that Jane girl if you like if not love Ivy. But I've signed a contract which is why you have no other choice than to—"
Dad was cut off by mom, "you can't make him marry that Jane against his will! I don't like that disco ball."
"I wasn't about to tell him to marry her." Dad flickered his eyes from my mother to me, "like I was saying, I've signed a contract which is why you have no other choice than to make disco ball reject you."
"That's why I love you," mom said, grinning at dad who grinned back, "I love you too."
I cleared my throat, "yeah, I'm still here." They both rolled their eyes at me before dad spoke again, "why don't we tell her that you're gay?"
"She won't buy it," I shook my head, "I've been seen with a lot of girls and not one boy—not in that way at least."
"We'll just tell her that you turned gay overnight!" Dad suggested, nodding as if he just suggested the idea of a lifetime. "Like you woke up and decided that you're now into boys."
"Shut the fuck up, Vince! Nobody is gonna believe that shit." Mom slapped his shoulder playfully.
Dad rolled his eyes before fixing his gaze on me, "fine then we'll scare the girl away. Now Ace you turned twenty two yesterday and you know what happens today, don't you?"
I nodded. I was about to become the leader of the Italian Mafia and I wasn't ready. I don't know whether I'll be able to do a good job or not. What if I disappoint my father? What if I ruin everything?
"Stop overthinking." Dad's voice brought me back from my thoughts. I sighed, "I don't know if I'm ready."
"Take your time." He chuckled, "come to me when you're ready. I don't want you to feel like I'm forcing this on you. I would never do that."
"Thanks daddy." I mocked earning a scoff from both my parents.
"Are you going to the club?" Mom questioned, raising her brows. I nodded, standing up before grabbing my jacket which was hanging on the back of the chair I was sitting on. "Yeah. You wanna come with?"
I lied and I was hoping she'd say no.
"Pass," she muttered, "I'll rather spend the day with my lovely husband." On her words, dad threw his arms on the chair she was seated on. "I love you."
"I love you t—" I cut mom off, "we get it! You two love each other. It's getting old. I'm tired of hearing this."
"You don't need to be so jealous." Dad spoke while rolling his eyes, "you know what, Ace? Just go or 'I love you' will not be the only thing you'll hear."
"Seriously? Get a room!" I said before storming out of the house. I entered my car and took out my phone before sending a text to Ivy, asking her to meet me outside before I drove to her place.
Minutes later, I pulled my car to a stop, Ivy's house coming into view. My eyes fell on her. She was standing in front of the gate wearing a black shirt and jeans with her boots and a black leather jacket over her shirt.
I rolled down the window before looking at her, "Get in." She walked towards my car before getting in the passenger seat. After buckling up, she turned her head in my direction with a grin, "where are we going?"
"You'll see."
