"So..." Mrs Reed trailed off while looking at me.

"So...?" I repeated, furrowing my brows, unsure to where she was trying to go with this word.

"How long has this—" she gestured her finger between me and Ivy who were sitting next to each other, "—been going on?"

"A few months," I replied, nodding my head while glancing at Ivy who was stuffing food in her mouth so that she wouldn't have to speak.

We were at Ivy's house, sitting at their dinning table and having dinner with them. We told them about us and they were interviewing us which sucked. When Ivy knocked on the door and they opened it, they were shocked to see me standing beside her. For once in my life, I put a suit on willingly. But I didn't think it was the suit that shocked them.

It's been ten minutes since we've been sitting at this table.

Mr and Mrs Reed were questioning while Mason was weirdly silent. He was waiting for this dinner to be over so that he could snap at us. I knew him.

"I do not mind this," Mr Reed spoke, "as long as you keep Ivy happy."

I looked up at Mason who was taking his anger on his steak. I bet he was seeing my face instead of that steak. He'd stabbed it with his fork and cut it  carelessly while glancing at me every now and then—telling me that it's what he would've done to me.

I snorted internally.

As if he could.

"I'm very happy to hear this." Mrs Reed said with a smile, looking at Ivy, "How have Ace been treating you?"

I looked at Ivy from the corner of my eyes. She swallowed the food in her mouth before taking a sip of her drink. "Alright."

"Excuse me?" The words flew out from my mouth before I could stop them. I coughed, "I mean, I've been treating her better than alright."

She smirked, "sure, whatever you say."

"Okay." Mr Reed mumbled, "how about your parents, Ace? Do they know?"

"Yeah," I replied, shoving a piece of my steak in my mouth.

"And they didn't inform us?" Mrs Reed asked, throwing her hands in the air dramatically.

I do not like that woman.

"Apparently not." Ivy responded while rolling her eyes, "if they did, you would've known, mom."

"Right." Ivy's mom muttered before her eyes widened as if she just realized something, "but you're supposed to be marrying that Jane girl. It was announced on your birthday!"

"It's already been called off, dude, chill." My eyes widened at the end of my own sentence. I did not mean to say that aloud. It was my freaking thoughts.

"Did you just call my wife dude?" Mr Reed asked with a forced chuckle. I cleared my throat, "nope. You heard wrong."

"I did no—" he was cut off by me, "yeah, no, you heard wrong. I didn't say that."

"Maybe." He muttered looking at his wife who was furrowing her brows.

I stared at the two idiots in front of me then looked at Ivy.

How did these two make her?

"Anyway, what about you, Mason?" Mrs Reed looked at Mason, "Did you know?"

"No." Mason replied straight away, "if I did, they wouldn't have lasted."

"You wish." I said just as my phone started vibrating in my pocket. I took it out and glanced at the caller ID before standing up. I excused myself and went outside to answer it, "what's up?"

"Ace, it's your parents." Kade said, urgency and sadness in his tone.

These last two words; “your parents” had my heart beating faster than it should. I had yet to hear what he had to say about them but I knew it wasn't going to be something good. His tone gave that away.

I swallowed the lump in my throat before asking, "what happened?"

"They were on their way from that party—" Kade paused, "they got into an accident. It was planned, Ace."

"Did they..." I trailed off, not being able to form the sentence. Kade let out a sigh, "your mom, yeah. Your dad, no."

I was suffocating.

Kade's words rang in head several times; your dad, no.’

It felt as if someone was squeezing my heart in my chest. My hands reached to the tie around my neck and I loosened it. "Where's mom?"

"Hospital. I've sent you the address." Kade replied and cleared his throat, "uncle's...body is at which is now your main mansion. Ace, you gotta claim the Italian Mafia now. They can't stay without leader."
