Persephone was used to being the new kid. As an orphan, she often jumped from foster family to foster family until, finally, she was released into the world with some money that she used to buy a beaten-up old car and a house in Forks, Washington. She was going to finish school here, find a job, and get the hell out of the United States.

"Yo, are you the new girl?" A guy with black, shoulder length hair walked over to her with a smile. She had barely made it halfway through the parking lot and everyone was already staring and whispering.

"Yes, I'm Persephone." She greeted, smiling politely.

"I'm Eric. Here, let me introduce you to my friends." He wrapped his arm casually around her shoulders, making her uncomfortable. She shrugged him off subtlety while keeping a polite smile in place. He frowned but didn't say anything, glancing at the beautiful girl from the corner of his eye.

"I think I'm going to go get my schedule. I'll probably see you around." She gave a small wave and walked into the school, ignoring everyone as she searched for the office.

As she was doing so, the Cullens were pulling into the school and exchanging worried glances. Edward listened as Rosalie, in particular, expressed her distaste and worry for the situation Edward and, possibly, Alice would put their family in. No one spoke as they got out the car, even Alice. She had been uncharacteristically quiet since they pulled into the parking lot and heard whispers of Persephone, but Jasper could feel her excitement and anticipation. He knew she was hiding something about the human from him, but didn't know what.

Persephone was exhausted by the time lunch came around. She was used to being the new student, yes, but she was not used to the attention of Mike Newton and Eric Yorkie. Both were a pain in her ass in the entire day, constantly touching her without her consent and speaking to her casually, like they were friends.

They were not.

Persephone huffed as she collected her lunch tray, but made the mistake of making obvious eye contact with Eric. He quickly waved her to his table, where a guy she briefly met earlier sat with Mike and three other girls. Tyler, the one she had briefly met, flashed her a flirty smile as she sat next to a girl who she vaguely remembered being named Bella. The other two girls she had never seen before, but introduced themselves as Jessica and Angela.

"So, why'd you move here?" Jessica asked bluntly. Persephone didn't even paint a polite smile on her lips, too annoyed with how everyone had acted during the day.

"I'm an orphan. I just turned eighteen and had some money, so I moved here from Seattle." She replied, picking at her food. Jessica nodded, an embarrassed look on her face.

Persephone zoned out of the other's conversation and noticed Bella doing the same. However, the other girl seemed to be paying attention to something across the cafeteria. Persephone turned and saw a table full of the most beautiful people she had ever seen. She instantly understood why Bella was so distracted, and found herself scanning the entire group.

At their table, Edward gave Alice a smirk.

"She thinks we are the most beautiful people she's ever seen, Alice." Alice gave her brother a look while the others glanced between them. It was obvious to the entire family Alice was withholding information, but they trusted her. She would tell them if it were any of their business. Jasper, on the other hand, found himself a bit impatient with his lover. He was curious as to why this new human was so important to Alice, but hadn't had the courage to ask her yet. He knew their relationship and bond were strong, and wanted to give her time to tell him herself.

Edward suddenly let out a laugh. Alice was instantly focused on him, eager to know what he heard.

"The blonde is hot. I'm not sure as to which she is referring to, I was a bit busy listening to our family talk shit about you, Alice." He joked, knowing only Jasper had kept his thoughts centered around the pixie haired girl. "I do know for certain that she has World History next. Jasper, Alice – aren't you in that class, too?"
