School was part of a routine for the Cullens – one that had long since become boring. However, for Jasper, Alice, and Edward, it was no longer just a part of their day where they pretended to be human. Granted, they still didn't pay attention or put too much effort into classes, but they had something to look forward to, now.
For Alice and Jasper, it was Persephone. The girl sat in the lunchroom with her usual table, and Alice and Jasper were practically bursting with jealousy. Jasper could feel Persephone's annoyance with Mike – who was sitting very close to her – and Alice could read in her body language that she was uncomfortable. So, they took matters into their own hands.
"Hi, Persephone! Come sit with us!" Alice practically demanded, gently tugging the girl by her hand to an empty table far, far away from Mike Newton's grubby hands. Persephone noticed again how cold the girl's hands were, but focused only on the pleasure of having Alice hold her hand. She immediately felt guilty, looking to Jasper with apologies in her eyes, but Jasper was glaring harshly at Mike. When he felt her guilt, though, his entire attention transferred to Persephone, where his gaze softened and he sent calming waves to her. He gave her a soft smile and heard her heartbeat pick up – something he felt very proud of himself for causing – and smiled even wider.
"We can eat here!" Alice chirped, sitting down on one side of Persephone while Jasper took her other side. They leaned close to the human as Rosalie watched cautiously. However, she saw Jasper's soft gaze towards the human and couldn't help but feel some of her worry ebb away. He liked her, that was obvious, so there's a low chance he'll hurt her. Vampires feel things on levels humans could never even imagine, and she knew it wouldn't be long before his like turned to love; at that point, he would never be able to change his feelings for her. Like he will with Alice, he will love her, too, for eternity. It would be going against his instincts – against his entire being to cause the human pain.
"How's your day been so far, Persephone?" Jasper asked softly, gazing at the beautiful human. He enjoyed the way her cheeks turned a soft pink before she answered.
"It's been alright." She cast a wary glance to Mike. "Mike's been hounding me all day. I think it's to do with the dance coming up, but I don't know how to subtlety tell him I'm not interested." She confided, twisting her fingers anxiously. Jasper sent calming energies to her as Alice held her hand with a grin.
"You can come with us!" The vampire grinned. Persephone instantly snapped her attention to the two sitting next to her, eyes moving back and forth between the two in disbelief.
"Seriously?" Alice nodded, still with a happy grin on her face. Her happiness was contagious, and Jasper found himself smiling, too. He was anxious to hear the human's reply – an emotion he hadn't felt for himself in a long time.
"Okay, then!" Persephone was not immune to Alice and Jasper's charm, and gave in at the sight of both of them grinning at her. "I'll go shopping for a dress soon."
"I'll take you!" Alice jumped at the idea of being with Persephone for longer, and got a vision as she did so.
Persephone was dressed in a black gown that hugged her figure down to her waist, where it became loose to fall around her legs. There was a high slit on it, exposing the soft skin of her thigh anytime she moved. The girl smiled at Alice, who stared at her in awe.
"Okay!" Alice finished the vision just in time to hear the human's reply, though she already knew it ahead of time. She couldn't help but stare at the beautiful girl in front of her, imagining her in the dress she saw before. She glanced at Jasper, who could feel her awe and excitement, and smiled at him. She knew, then, that loving Persephone was inevitable. Persephone was already making a home in their hearts, and neither were too keen and getting rid of her.
