The wind is cold against Persephone's cheeks as she paces back and forth in the field where they first confessed to each other. They had only been there once since the dance, to have a picnic, and the beautiful scenery still takes her breath away. However, her thoughts are too jumbled for her to fully appreciate the view.
Alice and Jasper wait patiently for her to put her thoughts together. Their patience makes her chest ache; they're so wonderful, always giving her time to piece sentences together and sift through her emotions. They express their feelings for her so well – soft forehead kisses, light touches against her wrist. All their kind words and kisses were given by the same mouths they surely use to drink blood.
Persephone finds herself not as scared nor disgusted as she thinks she should be at that thought.
She finally sits, settling into the tall grass and wildflowers. Jasper almost protests. He normally would take his jacket off so that she and Alice could settle comfortably onto the ground without worrying over bugs or grass stains, while he himself deals with them off to the side. Now, he thinks, isn't the time for chivalry. He'll just buy her a new dress if this one gets messy.
"All of you are vampires, right?" The human speaks, picking at grass and flowers and twisting them together into something that Alice faintly notes is the beginnings of a flower crown. She thinks her human would look beautiful with flowers in her hair. Maybe, if this conversation goes well, she can do that tomorrow.
"Yes. We're a coven." Persephone hums in acknowledgement. It's quiet for a while, then-
"Would you drink my blood?" Alice and Jasper both freeze, but Persephone is fiddling away with the plants in her hands. She doesn't see the matching expression of concern on their faces.
"God, darlin'," Jasper says, breathless with the shock of her question. "You really brought two vampires out to the middle of nowhere to ask if we would feed from you?!"
Persephone shrugs.
"I mean, why else would you want me?" The two vampires finally notice the human's furrowed brows, and slowly move closer to her; they move as if trying to calm a frightened animal, but Persephone pays them no mind. Once they are close enough, they both settle on the ground near her and reach out at the same time. Their hands wait patiently on either side of her, palm up in an obvious invitation. Persephone finally glances at them.
"Darlin', we don't drink human blood." Persephone blinks. "We can, but our coven is different. We only drink animal blood and we don't feed more than necessary."
"We're like vegetarians!" Alice jokes softly before her expression turns stern. "Seriously, though, Persephone, we meant everything we said to you. We want you. Not as," She appears to be in physical pain as she blurts out her next few words, "a walking blood bag. As our partner. If you'd still like to have us, that is."
"But-"
"No, sweetheart. Trust us, please. We've never lied to you. We love you so much, we were going to tell you as soon as we spoke about it with the others. We want you to be with us – really be with us. As we are and as you are." Jasper says, leaning closer to the human. "Honestly? Your blood doesn't even affect us. The smell is there, obviously, but it's not tempting so that we lose control. It's weird, but extremely convenient."
Persephone purses her lips as she processes everything they've told her. They wait patiently, giving her space but still keeping their hands so that she can initiate contact if she wants. The seconds skip by in silence, and the two vampires become wary. Had they said too much? Was she frightened, now? Did she have more questions? Did she still want them?
Then, Persephone sighs and turns her face to the cloudy sky.
"When we.." She trails off, face scrunching in a mix of disgust and confusion. Alice and Jasper wait for her to finally react in the way she should: scared, running and crying in the opposite direction while screaming at them that she doesn't want them anymore.
So, when their girlfriend looks at them seriously and asks, "When we have sex, it's not necrophilia, right?" They only pause for a second before promptly bursting into laughter. They stop themselves after Persephone lets out a loud sound of protest, and calmly explain that no, it's not necrophilia, and that's definitely not a question they were expecting. Nor the reaction, but they simply add this response to their list of things they love about their Persephone.
