Persephone closed her car door and was instantly greeted by an overly excited Mike Newton. She sighed under her breath and pasted on a polite smile, the most the boy ever got from her, as she turn to him.
"Hi, Mike." She greeted, walking past him and feeling her annoyance grow as he fell into step next to her.
"Good morning, Persephone." He said, arm raised like he was going to wrap it around her shoulders before he thought better of it and dropped it.
Alice and Jasper watched from the other side of the parking lot, the only thing stopping them from interfering due to their jealousy was the annoyance Jasper could feel rolling off of Persephone in heavy waves. She didn't like the boy.
"You're right, Jaz. She absolutely loathes the entire friend group besides Bella." He boasted, seeming to find it amusing that Persephone didn't like anyone but the human he, himself, liked.
"Stop it, Edward. Don't pry into her thoughts." Alice said, glancing at him from the corner of her eye. She was leaned against the car with Jasper's arm thrown casually over her shoulders, her focus entirely on the human walking into the school building. Rosalie scoffed.
"He doesn't listen. He's too nosey for his own good." She hissed, walking hand-in-hand with Emmett to the school house. She was still angry from the night before and seeing her siblings gawking at their respective human's was doing nothing to soothe her anger and anxieties. She was worried, mainly, but hid it beneath rage. Those girls shouldn't be involved with such a dangerous family – with such dangerous creatures.
She wanted her siblings to stop acting recklessly, and to leave the human's to live out their lives away from supernatural creatures that could lash out and kill them at any given moment. Her partner wanted her to give them a little more credit, as most of her siblings hadn't touched a human in forever, but she was still anxious. She knew what thirst was like. She knew that Jasper struggled, and she knew that Bella's blood called to Edward on an entirely different level than normal humans did. Emmett, noticing her lost in her thoughts, squeezed her hand and kissed her cheek softly.
"It's okay, Rose. We'll be okay." She gave him a soft smile, grateful for her husband's existence. Suddenly, Rosalie felt a force bump into her, and heard a soft gasp of shock. She glanced forward, prepared to help the person up, but froze when she realised who it was.
Persephone. Alice and Jasper's human.
Emmett came to his senses first and began mumbling apologies, helping the girl up to her feet and gathering her bag off the floor. When Persephone was back to her full height, Rosalie shot her a polite smile.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going." She said as Emmett took her hand again. Persephone smiled.
"It's not a problem!" Her eyes shot to their hands before meeting Rosalie's again. "You're Alice and Jasper's sibling, right?"
"Jasper's my twin, actually." Rosalie nods, the lie slipping from her tongue easily. This was the ruse they had practiced for months, and it certainly wasn't new. After decades of jumping from town to town, it became easier to reuse old stories of their origins and relationships.
"Oh! Wow, you two do look similar. I'm Persephone." She holds her hand out to the couple, still smiling. Rosalie shakes her hand gently.
"Rosalie. This is my boyfriend, Emmett." Emmett grins and shakes the human's hand.
"We've heard a lot about you!" He winks, earning a small glare from Rosalie. Persephone flushes.
"Ah, yes! Alice and Jasper are my project partners in History." She replies. He shakes his head, grin growing.
"Oh, I didn't mean in that way." He guffaws when Rosalie hits his chest.
"Ignore him." The blonde says as the human blushes dark red. Persephone nods and smiles.
"Well, it was lovely to meet you both. I better get to class." The couple watch as she scurries down the hallway before Rosalie turns to Emmett.
"Don't do that." He says, not even looking at her.
"You don't do that! Seriously, are you trying to help them get together?" Emmett shoots her a small smile.
"I just want them happy, Rose. C'mon, let's get to class." He pulls his wife down the hallway as she runs his words through her head. Can't they be happy without risking the poor girl's life?
