-Present-
My mom is a perfectionist. If anyone is coming over, be it our grandparents or the neighbours, she will make sure our house is immaculate and the best dishes are made. Rhy's family was no exception. She spent 2 hours fussing around me to get my room clean and to help her out with cooking.
Sweet little Juliette was in college which left me to clean up and help my mom out with everything. Rolling my eyes for the 9th time my mom yelled at me for not washing the potatoes out properly, my dad finally came to the rescue and he told me to run when I still had the chance to do so.
It might seem like my parents put a lot of pressure on me, but moments like this are when I'm glad I've got them. I smiled to myself and headed to my room to get ready. Rummaging through my closet I sighed. Most of my closet is jeans, sweats and dark blue and black being the most common colour. After extreme searching I finally found a black turtleneck and I slipped on light blue jeans when I heard the doorbell ring.
I heard chatter fill into our house, I headed down the steps after pulling my hair up into a high pony. I saw Posie and Sierra still near the door and I went to them. Both girls are a year younger than me and we were pretty close.
Since Rhy left and cut contact with me, I eventually lost contact with his sisters too. The twins lit up with a smile as they tackled me with a hug, I really missed them, they were like my little sisters. After promising a girls day out we all headed into the dining room.
It's gonna take a while for me to get used to Rhy being back but his smile as soon as I walked into the room really melted me. Juliette came in 15 minutes later from her college.
We have a really pretty backyard, decked out with fairy lights and tables. When Juliette and I were younger, we'd always eat food in the backyard, it used to be our favourite thing to do. Suddenly an idea popped in my mind, I asked my mom and Rhy's mom, Diana if they'd like to eat dinner out.
Both moms grinned at my idea and asked my dad, Rhy's dad Arthur and Rhy to shift the chairs out as the girls and I carried the food out.
Within a span of 15 minutes, the entire place was ready and god was it pretty. The sun was setting down giving the entire sky a pinkish-purplish shade and the lights emitting a warm glow. I grinned at the sight in front of me, all of us sitting and laughing and the sky in the back. We were all laughing and catching up and eventually we were all stuffed with apple pie and ice cream.
The sky now littered with stars and there was soft music playing in the back. I was lost in thought when someone gently poked me. I turned around and saw Rhysand standing there with a smile on his face, he whispered "You wanna go up to the roof? The stars are really pretty out". I smiled at him and nodded, Rhy and I used to love stargazing, it was our favourite pastime.
We both excused ourselves and went up to my roof. It was cold, so I'm glad I chose the turtleneck for today. After we found a nice spot we both laid down and looked up at the stars when I asked him, "Catch me up with your life, I've missed 2 years of it", he turned towards me as he started telling me about his life in NYC.
He talked about how they'd prank his teacher and about a girl named Naomi, who kept stalking him. I couldn't help but laugh at the thought of a girl following Rhy around like a lost puppy. By now we both were facing each other and laughing as we told each other about what each other missed.
Me dying my hair different colours of the rainbow to piss my mom off, Aria getting a piercing after being extremely drunk. After a while of talking, we both were tired and fell into a comfortable silence when I finally mustered the courage to ask Rhy's, "Did you ever miss me there?"
He smiled and replied, "Everytime I would walk across a soft toy store, I'd always stop there and buy one so I could give it to you once I'm back. Whenever we passed by a store with Ramen, I'd always convince my friends there to buy it cause I knew how much you loved eating it. Oh and book stores. NYC has the prettiest libraries. You would have loved it there Popcorn, they were so pretty and warm everytime I stepped foot in one it felt like you were there."
My eyes burned at how much he remembered about me. At how much he missed me. I couldn't help but engulf him in a warm embrace, he was stunned at first but eventually melted into it and hugged me back just as tightly. He nuzzled into the crook of my neck and I could feel his cheeks lighting up wid a smile. I could feel my own lips turning up into a warm grin. We both stayed like that for a while until I broke the silence by asking, "So when am I getting all the soft toys you bought me?". Rhy replied "I've bought atleast 30, I'll give them all one by one." I pulled back and smiled at him.
I sighed softly as we both fell into a comfortable silence. "I missed you so much." I said. He smiled, and replied, "I missed you more then you can ever imagine Popcorn."
I heard my mom yelling at us to get off the roof. We both smiled and got off the roof. I said goodbye to the Sencen's as I headed back into my room to collapse for the day. The smile never left my face.
