We're leaving tomorrow, I managed to hide the entire process from Popcorn and the gang even going as far as asking her parents not to tell her. It's not like they actually cared about what happens to her so they just forgot about it. It's my last day in school today. I didn't plan to tell them until after I left, cause I knew if I saw them crying I wouldn't be able to go. I'm a massive coward.
Before going though, I had a little job to do. I had to confess to Popcorn. I've loved her since 5th grade and since I'm leaving tomorrow I might as well tell her today. Finish everything off. The entire day went by as a blur and before I knew it, we were all in the lockers saying our bye's for the day. I knew I wouldn't see them after this so I hugged each and every one of them.
They knew I wasn't big on hugging people who aren't Poppy or my sisters so I wasn't shocked when I saw the surprise in their faces. I told Poppy to come with me for 5 minutes. She looked at me with her eyebrow raised and a questioning look on what's wrong.
I dragged her to the car when I started my speech. "So, um I've always wanted to tell you something and I might not get a chance later." Popcorn looked at me and interrupted and asked "Might not get a chance later? Why?"
I seemed to have forgotten her knack for interrupting as I told her "Not right now just listen to me." She looked at me surprised and notioned me to continue. "I just want you to know that after I tell you whatever it is, I understand if you don't want to be my friend."
She now shifted from surprise to concern as she looked me dead in my eye and told me, "Unless you're a serial killer, I'll always be your friend, what's wrong?" Mustering up all the courage I had I started, "I've always.." Before I could even finish her phone rang. Rowan slipped from the stairs while going to his car and sprained his ankle and needed us to help him out. Times like this is when I wished Popcorn wasn't the mom of the group. She told me to hold my thought as she ran towards Rowan.
Defeated, I helped Rowan and dropped him home. Popcorn called me later and asked me, what is it that I wanted to tell her? It wasn't worth telling her through a call. If I ever tell her it's gotta be face-to-face. I sighed and told her it was nothing as I packed the remaining stuff to head to the airport.
We were waiting for the plane to start boring, it was around 3am right now. I knew Popcorn wouldn't be awake so I decided to do one last thing before I broke all contact. I left her a voicemail.

The day after Rhys left.
I woke up after a goodnight's sleep. It was around 6am so I decided to start getting ready. I brushed, showered and dressed up fairly fast. I was checking my phone when I saw a voicemail from Rhy. It must have been some useless thought he got at 3 am in the night so I didn't think much about it and decided to just ask him later at school.
I looked at my parents fussing around my sister to eat her food since it was apparently important for her to eat before going to college. Ever since they got the mail saying she got a scholarship to an Ivy league school it's all they've ever talked about. I rolled my eyes at them and headed out the door for school.
I just turned 16 but I didn't have my own car. I had my sister's old car which I got after a lot of begging, not that I minded. Second hand car is better than no car at all. I reached school in 15 minutes and saw Aria and Eric already sitting there. Usually Rhy would also be with them by now, that's weird. I joined the latter as we waited for everyone else to come. 15 minutes later, everyone was here excluding Rhy and Rowan. I assumed they were coming together like they would sometimes and got stuck in traffic.
I waited for 5 more minutes and Rowan walked in. Alone. With tears streaming down his eyes. Aria and I rushed to him and asked him what's wrong. He looked at me and his eyes widened in concern and realistion. He took a few deep breaths and faced me.
He looked me dead in my eyes and told me, "I went to his house. The entire place was deserted so I went to the neighbours and asked them. You won't believe what they told me. Rhysand shifted. The entire family shifted to NYC. He didn't tell us in fear of our reactions." My eyes widened, tears threatening to fall as I looked at him and asked him, "This is just one of his sick pranks isn't it? He's going to come in anytime now right?" Rowan looked at me with pity in his eyes as he told me, "I wish Pops, I really do but he's actually shifted."
I refused to believe him as I ran to my car and drove to his house. It was deserted. Completely utterly deserted. My eyes widened and the tears fell. I broke-down right there. This time though, he wasn't there for me.
After I calmed down a good amount I grabbed my phone to check in on Rowan and Aria when I realised he had left me a voicemail. Scrambling through, I found it and played it. He spoke. "I'm sure by the time you hear this I'd probably be gone. I just wanted to say, I'm sorry. I love you. Don't think of calling me or texting me, I changed numbers. Goodbye Popcorn."
The last 2 words were enough to send me into a plunging hole. The tears dropped non-stop for 3 hours before I decided to head home. I told Aria that I was fine. I wore his hoodie and curled up and cried the entire day.
A/n so we finally got a back story on what exactly happened. The fact that I wrote this while my brain died inside speaks for itself. We've crossed 450, tysfmm :)) ily guys sfm and vote and comment :)
