It was time. The dreaded Monday morning. Never in all his years could Sugawara remember a day where he enjoyed Mondays. It was all pain and misery, coming back from a small break only to have even more schoolwork shoved in his face than he could keep count of.

To make it even worse, all the young teenager's weekends consisted of, was the organization for his first week back at school, preparing things such as his uniform and health and safety protocol with the principal and his other teachers.

As much as Sugawara hated to admit it, that night his hands had been shaking and he could feel his stomach do somersaults while he had laid in the dark, the worst-case scenarios replaying over and over in his head like a broken record player.

He knew he was being silly, but as the sunlight streamed in through his curtains, the reality of his situation dawned on him.

With his eyes still wide open, he turned off his blaring alarm, resting his head back on the pillow and taking in the sounds of the chirping outside. The sharp noises felt like they were grating away at his ears, slow and painfully. If he could have one within that moment, it would be to go back to his deep slumber.

Though his peace was shortly interrupted with a loud knock on his door

"Koushi, you have to get up, just because you turned your alarm off does not mean you are up" Sugawara's mother called through the door, continuing to rap her knuckles on the painted wood.

"I'm getting up," Suga said as he pulled his duvets up over his already bad bedhead, going above and beyond to ignore his mother.

"I know you are not up, don't make me go get Ichigo" the warning was loud and clear, leaving the teenager no choice but to drag himself from his haven of pillows and blankets.

The chilly air sent shivers up Sugawara's spine, causing small goosebumps to line his skin. The unfamiliar weight on his chest and his long locks always gave him a small surprise in the morning, despite having been in his female body for quite some time.

Walking over to his desk, he picked up the crisp white blouse and hung it in front of his body, looking up and down at himself in the mirror. He sympathised with all the girls at his school, it was unbearably uncomfortable. Though all he could do was live with it for now.

Pulling his pyjamas off, he slipped into his uniform, the stiff fabric feeling almost itchy against his skin. After pulling the vest over his head, tying the small crimson ribbon around his neck and fixing his skirt, he gave himself one last twirl in the mirror, though it wasn't to his liking, the teenager admired how the clothes reflected his figure.

"Come on, you need to have breakfast otherwise you're going to be late" Sugawara's father called from the bottom of the staircase, his heavy footsteps moving off into the kitchen where he could be heard sitting down and working away at his breakfast.

Taking in a deep breath and giving himself one last look in the mirror, Suga then went and walked downstairs, each footstep lingering with slight dread.

Making his appearance in front of his parents, there was a moment of hushed silence, the only noise coming from the frying pan. It was as if the world had stopped.

Feeling the heavy strain of eyes on him, Sugawara attempted to fill in the blank quiet.

"So, how do I look," he said, trying to laugh it off

"You look just like your mother when she was your age" Ichigo jokes, tears in the corners of his eyes as he embraced his son with a warm and loving hug.

"I think I looked better though" came the lighthearted joke from Sakura, joining in the family hug.

For a moment, the weight of the world seemed to lessen for Suga, a gentle smile creasing his face. Though it was cut short with a short and quick knock at the door.

"Oh, that must be Daichi!" Suga's mother said gleefully, clapping her hands and rushing off to answer the door.

"What? No-" the teenager never got to finish his sentence, the door had been swung open to show a rather tidy looking Daichi, dressed in school uniform, with a bag on his shoulder.

"Welcome, I'm assuming you want breakfast, it is still early after all" the woman gestured for their guest to enter the house, whirling him into the dining room and planting him down in one of the seats, preparing him a plate of food "Koushi, have you lost your manners?"

"Sorry, Uhm, I have to go get my bag" Sugawara stuttered, somehow excusing himself from the room

Walking up the stairs was almost as draining as running a marathon. His heartfelt as if it were doing somersaults and cartwheels, an attempt to jump out of his chest.

Daichi was at his house this early in the morning? There had to be some sort of reason.

Hastily shoving his books into his old and worn shoulder bag, the silver-haired teen prepared himself to see the face of the one person he dreaded the most.

Slinking back down, Sugawara chucked his bag onto the couch before plopping himself down at the table, purposely as far away as possible from his friend.

"So, do you have anything on today?" Sakura tried to start a conversation, placing a stack of pancakes in front of each of the teens "I'm assuming the volleyball team is still going well"

"Well, everyone has improved so much and since we have a few more weeks to practise before the tournament I'm sure we'll get even better" Daichi boasted "I can tell how much everyone has improved, including you Suga"

Looking up from his plate, the silver-haired teen locked eye contact with his friend before quickly being broken, a tinted blush spreading across his cheeks. To his dismay, this didn't go unnoticed by his mother who only gave him a small chuckle.

"Anyway, shouldn't you be getting to school? You guys still have training don't you?" Sakura spoke up, pushing her chair out from the table and picking up everyone's finished plates "You might want to hurry, otherwise you'll be late"

"Of course, thank you for breakfast" Daichi gave a warm smile and bowed, showing his respect.

"There's no need to thank us so formally, you're part of the family" Ichigo laughed, walking off to help his wife in the kitchen "Koushi, will you be home for dinner?"

"I think so, I'll see you then" the silver-haired boy smiles, grabs his bag and walks over to the door, his friend in short pursuit.

The pair had an awkward moment, struggling to put their shoes on in silence, the only noise coming from the soft splash and clinks as the dishes were being done. Though in an instant they were both outside, braving the chilling winds that fluttered through the neighbourhood.

With bags slung over their shoulders, Sugawara and Daichi walked down the road, with tension that could be cut with a knife.

"You know..." Daichi started, his voice delicate and fragile "If something happens, or you feel unsafe in any way, just tell me and I'll be there"

His tone may have been soft, but Suga could tell that his words were coming from his heart.

"Of course, thank you" a smile crept onto his face "But... I have a feeling that this will all be fine"
