Prologue
We all have the right to a second chance.
Whether we made mistakes or let the right moment pass, fate shouldn't prevent us from achieving our objective: to be happy.
Chapitre 1
Holly had spoken for the first time about how she felt.
Eddie congratulated himself on that. Not only had she stayed, but she really seemed to be doing better. They had been spending a lot of time together, since last month. Eddie would pick her up from her house and take her to meetings, then she would usually come home with him, to see Christopher.
– No, but sometimes I wonder what's going on in people's minds, she laughs. Serious. How many times have we been called to St Paul for people who were stuck at the door of their house completely naked?
– It's a classic, he laughed.
– No, but who needs to come out of their house naked like a worm?
– Apparently more people than you might think.
– This is crazy.
Eddie looked at her for a few moments.
She was of medium height, quite athletic. She had big hazel eyes that she looked around her. She was beautiful, really very beautiful. She had untied her long brown hair, which she had pulled over her shoulder.
He had noticed that she often played with her hair, when she was lost in thought. Her face was thin and her very white skin hadn't yet taken on the golden color of the Californian sun, which allowed her to admire the few freckles that dotted her cheeks.
He was more and more sure of it every day, he was in love with this woman. What he felt next to her, it had been a long time since he had felt it.
Not since Shannon.
– It was a good shoot, he blurted out when she glanced at him.
Holly narrowed her eyes.
She liked Eddie very much.
He was the member of her brother's team whom she considered the most a friend. He had been at the front, as a military paramedic, twice. He had known war, like her.
He was a simple and funny man, a little over thirty years old. He was typical Hispanic and always kept a smile. He was attractive but didn't play it, anyway, never in her presence. He was taking care of her son, a cute nine-year-old angel, whom she literally adored.
– Are you trying to get me to say you were right? she inquired.
– Who? Me? he took offense. No way.
Holly raised her eyebrows.
Eddie liked this little game between them. He felt like a teenager talking lightly about a serious subject. He had noticed that this was what she needed, to have fun.
