Chapter 1

It was sunny.

It was weird that the sun wanted to show up on a day like this, so sad. As if it was totally indifferent to the pain felt by the loved ones of the deceased.

It was so unfair.

The Los Angeles Fire Commander wanted to be there to pay tribute to this brave firefighter, who had lost his life so tragically, even though he wasn't on duty at the time.

The police were searching diligently for the person responsible.

The whole profession was in mourning. The loss of one of their members always created a gaping hole in the hearts of all the firefighters in the city, but even more so when it came to an assassination.

A gratuitous, incomprehensible act.

– Today is a sad day for our city, began the commander. A day when we lose one of our bravest firefighters. The one-eighteen brigade in Los Angeles loses a firefighter but also a colleague, a friend, a brother. We're wholeheartedly with each of its members, with each member of his family, too.

Four days earlier

– Holly, I love you, Buck called out in the middle of Bobby and Athena's living room.

– I love you too.

– And with each passing day, I'm happy that you've become my wife.

– If I had to do it again, I would do it again without hesitation, she told him sincerely. Because I love you.

– So, there you couldn't have fallen better, he had smiled at her. Holly, marry me, once again, here and now.

Holly had stopped breathing.

Buck raised his eyebrows to let her know he was waiting for an answer. She had forced herself to breathe again.

– You're serious ? It's... THAT kind of surprise?

– Yeah.

– You're completely crazy, she smiled. Yes, of course yes.

Buck had hugged her close, pressing his lips to hers to the applause of their friends and family.

And that was how Holly ended up in May's room putting on that gorgeous dress.
