Prologue

Life is an eternal restart.

We are born, we grow, we live... then we die. What happens during this time is up to us. We decide what to do with our own life. It's up to us to make this little lapse of time interesting.

And why not, to pass on what we have learned...

Chapter 1

Holly leaned over her husband.

He was a young man in his thirties. Tall and muscular, his blond hair was cropped short and he had blue eyes so light they were almost gray. Her left eyelid was topped with a birthmark.

He slept on his stomach and offered his muscular back and the arch of his loins to her sight, before the rest disappeared under the sheet. She placed her lips on the hollow of his back and went up along his spine dotting it with kisses.

Buck's eyes were still closed, but the smile that stretched across his lips betrayed his awake state. She finally leaned into his neck and he straightened up just enough to welcome her lips to his.

– I like this kind of alarm clock, he whispered, turning around enough to run his hand over her cheek.

He opened his eyes and sighed.

His wife was already ready for work. She was a young woman of average height, rather athletic. She sported a lively and determined hazel gaze. Her brown locks had been pulled back over her head in a bun so as not to interfere with her work. Her face was thin and her skin was white and dotted with freckles.

Holly was going back to work today and Buck would have preferred her to stay home a bit longer, safe, take care of their son for a few more weeks, a few more days. He was afraid that a new catastrophe would come to stick to his wife's coattails.

– What time is it? he whispered.

– Already five o'clock.

– You should have woken me up first.

– You need to sleep.

– I need to make love to my wife as often as possible.

– Tomorrow morning?

– You won't cut it, he warned her. I'll jump on you as soon as I get home

– I love that kind of promise, she whispered, kissing him. My mom drops Billy off at daycare. She's expecting you for seven o'clock.

– We'll be there, he promised her.

– See you tomorrow. Be careful today.

Every day the same recommendations but today, he too had the right to recommend caution because she too was going to put her life in danger, by the simple fact of doing her job as a police officer.
