The first item to be auctioned off is a package of assets sold by Martin Assets, consisting of three non-performing assets, two of which were described to be related to agricultural cultivation. The starting bid price was set at 300,000 pounds.
A total of seven or eight companies participated in this auction but only two people raised their sign for this first auction product that had little profit margin.
I didn't understand what Ron meant earlier. He looked very uninterested yet a little tense. He didn't contribute to the first auction at all. As if he was waiting for something. Or someone.
Finally we moved to the last item and it was a car manufacturing company which recently opened for a few years. It was a great deal.
Sure enough just as the bid started, the people at the bottom started to bid like sea waves one after another. The starting bid amount was 1.2 million and it slowly started to increase by everyone, adding 50,000 every time. I didn't understand why we were sitting there. Doing nothing. Sipping some expensive Dom Perignon.
Someone from the front seat of us raised their sign and added 800,000 at once. Jass turned to Ron and gave him a silent nod with her eyes. Ron straightened up on his seat and picked up that sign board.
"1 million." The host announced excitedly. "I have 1 million."
The front seat party turned their head towards us. I saw that person's face and everything became clear to me like some crystal.
The other person was none other but Rupert.
The funny thing was Rupert's expression didn't even faze when he saw Ron. Ron's blue and Rupert's green eyes pierced into each other. I could smell the burning whiff of gunpowder in the air between them.
Ron just stared at Rupert with a blank yet calm clam expression on his face. Rupert gave a baleful smirk then turned her head to the front and raised his sign board.
"1 million. We have one more 1 million."
For the next few minutes I constantly heard bids rising from my beside and my front. The two people vigorously competed in raising the bid prices. In the end, they were the only ones left in contention. When the bid was called at 3.5 million, the audience started to look as if they were watching a good show from these two people. It was obvious to everyone that these two people are in a bidding war to win. This has become a rather rare scene. At some point Rupert finally stopped and let Ron win that asset for five million.
I leaned back on my backrest and sighed deeply. I looked at Ron and pursed my lips.
So he came to beat Rupert. He had no interest in bidding or any asset in that auction.
He was actually drinking that poison.
After the bidding was finished they arranged for some refreshments at the hall area. We all headed towards there. Ron handed me over a small plate with a piece of strawberry tart.
"Hello, everyone." Someone called us from behind as I just finished eating half of my tart. I turned around to find Rupert was standing in front of us. My brows raised themselves when I took a look at his face. He seemed to do a lot of work on his face and I was ashamed to admit that he looked good. He looked way too handsome.
I glanced at Ron to find he was trying to kill Rupert with his glare with clenched fist and hardened jaw. I looked back at Rupert and inhaled a sharp breath.
