I held my breath and stayed still. I feared Ron could notice my existence if I made one single movement.

"Yes, I am taking care of myself, you don't have to..." it seemed he was too busy in his phone call to notice me. I slowly tiptoed and tried to pass the kitchen without making any sound. I glanced at the kitchen for a rain check. Whew! Ron was talking on the phone while facing the other side of the kitchen. I could see his broad back and shoulders. My eyes narrowed when I saw an opened whisky bottle in his left hand.

Did he plan to get drunk on an empty stomach?!

I shook my head. Who cares! I hate him and I despised him! I didn't give a single...

"Hold on mom. I am getting a call from Liza's doctor." My train of thoughts stopped when I heard my name. "Yes, Dr. Steve. So, how is everything going?.....Next Thursday? That is quick! Are you sure my wife's arm is completely healed?....*sigh*I see, so she needs to attend the physiotherapy regularly.....Of course she won't miss any appointment.....Don't worry I'll make sure she won't miss any....Please, Don't hesitate to ask me if you need anything. Just make sure she could heal completely and go back to her normal life. That's all I want....*sad laugh* Well I will try not to worry, but....I just can't stop worrying.....Yes, thank you." And cut the call.

I was standing still on the door while staring blankly at space. You just can't resent someone who was worrying dead for you on your back. I let go of a long shaky breath and turned myself back in the house. When I reached the kitchen Ron was taking a big glug of that neat alcohol directly from the bottle. I sighed. I was right.

"So, that's what you are having for dinner." Ron choked on his drink while I suddenly spoke up behind him.

"*Cough* *cough* *cough* Liza!" He looked at me surprised while struggling with his breathing. "What are....When did you come?" He put down the bottle on the kitchen counter and checked me from head to toe. "You all right?" A happiness clearly shown on his face.

I showed him my backpack. "I just drop by to pick up some books." I swiped my eyes around the kitchen. "Sorry, I came without informing you beforehand."

"Please don't say that," He said with a hurt tone. "You own this place as much as I."

My heart constricted as my fingers pressed hard on my backpack strap. I hate it when his words made effects on me like that.

I cleared my throat. "Where's Stacy?"

"It's her son's birthday." Ron slid his hands in his pockets. "So, I told her to take the day off. But she insisted on making dinner before leaving." He looked at me hopefully. "Did you eat?"

I tilted my head and stared at him for a few seconds. I glanced at that whisky bottle. I was sure he would start drinking again If I left. I rubbed my forehead and sighed defeatedly.

"No." I answered quietly. Maybe things wouldn't go too wrong by eating together.

"Would you like to join me?" He asked hesitantly what I was expecting next.

"Are we going to have this for dinner?" I asked while pointing to that bourbourne bottle.

"No! Of course not!" His eyes widened. "Let me check what Stacy made for dinner." He hastily went and opened the fridge. I slowly put down my backpack on a chair.
