"Boruto are you sure about this?" I watched as the blond in front of me dragged my hand around, taking turns here and there. "Definitely! I just know you'll love it!"
I smile as a small pit of warmth wells in my chest at the thought of him putting some actual thought into something other than fighting.
"So, where are we going?"
I see the hint of a smirk on his face and realize he isn't gonna tell me a thing. Not without us being directly in front of it at least.
Instead of stopping at something like the training grounds or onigiri bar, however, we stop in front of a large mountain quite a while outside of the village's gates.
"Tada!" I look at the large piece of landscape with confusion, switching between the mountain and Boruto.
"Tada?"
He chuckles again, taking my hand in his securely; this time, beside me. "Well, you were talking yesterday about how you miss being able to travel as much as in your days from the ANBU. I might not be able to show you that much, but this mountain is a great start."
His meek smile alone as he talked was enough for me, and I'm suddenly seeing the greenery in a new light. He wanted to show me something new, it was sweet.
"So we're hiking?"
He nods, going back to running with my hand in his. "Off we go!"
"Slow down, Dobe! You're gonna trip us!" I cry out, laughing a little as I let him continue running anyway. We get a good bit up the side when he suddenly slows, looking ahead of us. "What is it?"
He turns to look at me with a finger to his lips, hand slowly inching towards his kunai pouch. My eyes furrow and confusion sets in since I couldn't sense anyone else around.
On instinct I quickly reach into my pouch and take out a kunai, waiting for Boruto to make the call of who was attacking.
We wait in silence for a few more seconds before Boruto laughs, turning to look back at me. "Gotcha! You fell for it!" He exclaimed, seeming to be joyous about tricking me.
"Oh, you-!" I stomp up to him, hand raised to the back of his head before he dodged down, slipping behind me so he can wrap his arms around my waist, pulling my body against his.
His head rests on my shoulder, and I try not to overheat, my face already brighter than a tomato in the sun. "B-Boruto? You Dobe!"
"Look ahead," He whispered the words, tickling my neck with his breath.
I do as he says, and the sight takes the words from my mouth, jaw going slack. There in front of me was a mini rock waterfall, small animals dancing around it as the water glistened under the thin rays of sun sneaking through the tree leaves.
"Beautiful..." I forget Boruto is holding onto me and walk forward, watching as the birds bathe and the rabbits run around.
When I reach the edge of the natural landmark I crouch down, dipping the tips of my fingers into the frigid clear liquid.
"How did you know this was here?" I turn around to see Boruto watching me with adoration, a sparkle in his eyes I've never seen before.
"My old man knew about it. He said it was a great place to relax," The blond admits, walking up to me. "Do you agree?"
I nod, looking around some more at the trees and bushes. There were even flowers around. "It's amazing."
Boruto hums, sitting down beside me. "It relaxes me too, if I'm being honest," He states, and I can't help but agree. Since we got here he hadn't been as quick-paced as he usually is.
I just thought he was trying to give me a second so I can see the beauty. How dumb to assume he'd be that nice.
"I'm so gonna come here more now that I know about it," My fingers stream through the water, leaving a small ripple behind.
"Hey, Uhm... y/n," When I hear my childhood friend's sudden nervousness I look over to see him blushing terrible, hands resting behind his neck to hide them away.
"Is something wrong?"
"No, uh... I brought you here for a reason," I nod, silently telling him to go on. He seems too out of character, it's worrying me. "Well you see, I— well you— y/n will you go out with me?!"
He ended up quitting the idea of making the question sound calm, and instead blurts it out. I reel back in shock, obsidian eyes wide. "Huh?!"
"That was a joke! Haha, gotcha again!" He speaks back up quickly, punching my shoulder defensively as he does.
I don't say anything. I just sit there, trying to internalize the words he fed me. "Go... out? As in date?"
"I said it was a joke! Hahaha, very funny! Why aren't you laughing?"
It takes a second but a smile slowly emerges over my face, and I look at my friend with a pounding heart and a stomach of knots.
"Sure."
Boruto stops spewing out nonsense, looking at me in surprise. "Sure? Wait, as in; sure it was a joke or; sure you'll— go out with me?"
I laugh, flinging myself towards the boy to envelop him in a hug. "Sure I'll go out with you! I'm happy you asked before I did!"
Boruto just sat there, crushed under my body against the grass, hand sending small pats to my back. His cheeks were like flames, steam coming out of his ears.
You chose Boruto as your boyfriend!
