Aaron's pov

Where is Thea? She usually gets to all of Owen's parties early because they're so close but we're 2 hours into the party and there's no sign of her.

I was getting a little worried as I caught a glimpse of him and made my way towards the kitchen. "Have you seen Athena?" I asked Owen.

"Uhh, not since 3rd period today but Wren's upstairs if you wanna ask her." I nodded and quickly jumped the steps to the second floor.

Walking past the cluster of people near the bathrooms I saw an open door and hoped Wren sat inside. No luck.

Three doors later, in this maze of a house I found her drinking a beer with her phone held to her ear.

"Thea please your making me stress just answer the phone please." Wren finished and ended the voicemail to who I'm guessing is Athena. Apparently no one knows where she is at the moment but I ask anyway.

"Do you know where Thea is?" I say hoping I'm not met with the usual snarky response. "So, you're aware that Athena and I come to every party together, you've just heard me leaving her a voicemail asking her whereabouts, and yet you're standing here in front of me asking 'do you know where Athena is?' No, lover boy I don't know where she is or why she isn't answering." And once again, she's hit me with her overwhelming sarcasm.

I roll my eyes and try a different question, "have you at least talked to her after school today? I haven't seen her since this morning." She looks worried, like seriously worried and it scares me.

She shook her head and handed her phone to me. I scanned the messages on the screen.

3:44 pm -
Wren: hey are we riding to Owen's in my car?
4:30 pm -
Wren: Athenaaaaa
5:10 pm
Wren: girl answer my call I need to know if u need a ride?
6:05 pm
Wren: Thea you're worrying me are you okay?
6:48 pm
Wren: Athena grace answer the phone ur scaring me!

There were about 6 more messages after that but I got the idea. I was about to hand her phone back when Owen's name appeared on her phone.

I pressed the answer button and lifted the phone to my ear. "Hey, Wren I don't know if Aaron found you but Athena's here she just walked in but I think she pregamed a bit because-" Owen's voice was cut off by Thea's and I've never been more relieved. "Heyyy Owen I missed you babe." There was a stumbling noise and the call ended.

Wren and I quickly walked down the stairs to see Thea already dancing with Max. Wren shoved me with her elbow, "well go get her, let me know if she's alright." I weaved through the crowd and finally got close to her.

Once she saw me, she took a few steps and threw her arms around my neck smiling. I looked down at her blinding smile and big brown eyes, something was different.

For a while she'd been getting better; not partying, eating more, sleeping more, I could tell because her eyes weren't sunken and she looked happier, healthier. But it was more the look in her eye, it was hopeful the past few days, like she had genuinely been...happy.

But not tonight, her eyes were wild, like her mind was somewhere else.

I thought maybe she was sad but it wasn't like the first time I'd seen her drink, when she was depressed. It was as if she was somehow scared of something. Trying to find the fastest way to get away from it.
What is going on?

I yelled a little over the music, "Thea are you okay?" She waved me off and kept dancing close, "I'm fine, just dance with me." She laughed and pulled me close.

I couldn't put my finger on it but she was different tonight, hopefully she'll tell me soon because I don't know how long I'll be able to resist with her dancing on me like this tonight.
