The Doctor liked Clara. She was a wonderful person- funny, sweet, caring, and extremely sassy.
She knew nearly everything about him. 'Nearly' because he had one secret that he would never tell her. Ever.
If she knew his secret, he would be so embarrassed that he'd run away and never come back.
She even knew his name- after forevers of her pestering him relentlessly, he'd given in and told her.
So Clara was all knowing in terms of the Doctor's secrets, except for one.
He couldn't ever tell her. If she knew... He could only imagine her reaction.
Because he loved her.
Not as a friend, though-- as something more. The girl he wanted. He yearned to kiss her and hug her, but he knew he didn't have the right to it.
Clara, in his eyes, was too good for him. She deserved an attractive young human who protected her well, not a crazy old alien with a little blue box who could get her killed in a split second.
But he loved her all the same.
