Clara didn't enjoy the thought of carrying a tiny human inside her own body. What an odd idea.

But here she was, the child almost on its way into the world, the exciting, terrible, miserable, thrilling world of the Tardis.

"You'll be fine, Clara. I'm here. I'll be here the whole time." The Doctor squeezed her hand softly.

She nodded, trying to be strong through the pain as the child attempted to exit her body's cage again.

"Push, Clara, push..." Herubbed her tightly clenched fist as she struggled.

Beads of sweat appeared on her brow, and he wiped them away with a quick kiss on the forehead. "You can do it Clara..." he murmured words of encouragement into her ear.

She nodded almost imperceptibly, her body shaking.

But she needed to tell the Doctor the truth. "Doctor...."

"What Clara?" he asked, worried by the tone of her voice.

"I'm... Not.... Gonna make it..."

"But we were careful! Remember? We always used the-" He broke off and indicated the drawer to his right.

"No... Not that... That one time..."

The Doctor buried his face in his hands. "Oh God it's all my fault... All my fault... Why didn't you tell me sooner?? I could've takeN more precautions... You didn't tell me it would be dangerous for you to be pregnant..."

"Just... If its a girl.... Name her.... Kate. I.... Always... Wanted a Kate... And if he's a boy then.... Name him... James...."

She pushed, one last painful push, and her body gave way to the infant inside her as she took in her last breath, never to exhale it out again.
