GerEng Week 2021 Day 1: Abducted

Arthur awoke to the shattering of glass. He sprung up in bed, frantically looking around for who or what caused the sound. The sun was just starting to rise, leaving the room still relatively dark. Some light streamed in from the broken window, revealing the glass on the floor, but no object.

Arthur took in a sharp breath. Someone had to be in his room, but where? He was just about to get up to inspect further when a bag was pulled over his head and his hands tied tightly. He was thrown over someone's shoulder before exiting through what Arthur assumed was the broken window.

It all happened so quickly. Where they were going, Arthur had no idea. He wasn't even sure of where he was, only the shouting of guards letting him know how far away he was from the castle. Considering how muffled they were, he had to be pretty far already.

He didn't even bother screaming; it wasn't like it would help. If anything it would make the situation worse. That didn't mean he just gave up, however. Instead, he kept his other senses heightened for any clues that would explain who took him and where he was being taken. Unfortunately, it was quiet and in the dead of winter, not many smells were around for him to pick up on. After what felt like hours of confusion, Arthur heard a door open and he was once again in the warmth of indoors. He tensed up, unsure what would come next. They wouldn't kill him, right? At least not yet? They were just going to hold him hostage or something to get something from his parents. A concerning, but expected situation to be put into when you were the crowned prince of one of the most powerful kingdoms in the country.

"Halt," a familiar voice called. Arthur lifted his head up at the sound. There was no mistaking who that scratchy, heavily accented voice belonged to.

"You know the drill," he went on, "hand him over."

Finally, Arthur was returned to the ground, but his relief was short-lived as he was shoved towards the voice. Arthur listened carefully as his abductors' footsteps faded away.

"Gil-" Another familiar voice interjected before Arthur could get the name out.

"What is going...Arthur?"

Another wave of relief washed over Arthur. He was safe. Better than safe. Now if only he could get that damn bag off his head, He was about to try speaking up again when the two voices broke out into an argument as if he wasn't even there.

"What the hell is he doing here?"

"Surprise, late birthday present!"

"Birthday...what...Did he have any idea about this?"

"Uh...n-not exactly."

"Gilbert!"

"What?"

Eventually, Arthur couldn't take it anymore and interjected: "Sorry to interrupt, but could you maybe...I don't know...untie me."

It was Ludwig who ended up pulling the bag off and untying Arthur's binds. "Are you okay?" Ludwig murmured, his hands rubbing over Arthur's wrists soothingly before placing a kiss on each one. "I-I...I'm so sorry."

Arthur threw him a smile before taking hold of his face and pulling him down for a long kiss. "I am now. But kidnapping? Really?"

Ludwig rolled his eyes, gesturing to his older brother behind them. "It was that dummkopf's idea. I wasn't even aware of it."

"Oh come on," Gilbert groaned, "all week you've been whining about how much you missed him."

Ludwig's cheeks went red at the statement while Arthur snorted slightly but nevertheless endeared by it. "Was not," Ludwig sputtered.

"Fine moping. Anyway, how else was I supposed to get him here without suspicion?"

"There were so many other options," Ludwig bit back, pinching the bridge of his nose, "whatever...we'll discuss this later. It's too early for this."

With a huff and a little more grumbling, Gilbert took off down the hall.

"For what it's worth," Arthur began, "I missed you too."

Ludwig gave him a small smile before taking Arthur's hand and leading him to his room.

"We really need to figure something out," he sighed once they were settled into bed and Arthur into some extra pajamas.

"It's too early for this," Arthur replied, resting his head in the crook between Ludwig's shoulder and chest.

Ludwig's arm instinctively wrapped around Arthur's waist. "You know he could have just made things worse between our kingdoms. What will-"

"What about 'too early' don't you understand? I'm worried too, but let's just focus on right now. I missed you, you missed me, but now we're here and can rest easy."

Ludwig let out another sigh, this time in defeat. "I suppose..."

Though in his gut he worried about what would follow this whole ordeal, the weight of Arthur on him and the softness of his breath eventually put Ludwig to sleep.
