GerEng Week Day 2: Lost

"He's gone."

He had never heard Ludwig sound so broken or fearful. It made Arthur's heart sink down to his stomach.

"I'm coming over," He stated, already getting his coat.

"Arthur...you really don't have to. I'll be fine. H-He's probably not far-"
"I'll help you look."

"Art-" Before Ludwig could continue arguing Arthur ended the call and set off to his lover's house.

Ludwig was just pulling in when Arthur arrived. As Ludwig got out, the Brit was taken aback by how disheveled he looked. His hair was wild and shaggy in his red-rimmed eyes as he trudged towards Arthur defeated.

"Oh love," Arthur murmured.

"I'm fine."

"Any luck."

"Nien," Ludwig choked out.

Arthur's eyes softened and he pulled the German into a tight but loving embrace. At first he tensed up, but after a moment he sunk into the embrace, burying his nose in Arthur's neck. He had never seen Ludwig so upset, but considering that his dog was involved, Arthur wasn't surprised. What he was surprised by was the fact one of Ludwig's dogs ran away in the first place.

"Berlitz is a good, smart boy," Arthur assured his distressed lover, "he'll find his way home, but in the meantime let's go look some more." Ludwig nodded, but continued to hold onto Arthur for a little longer. "It'll be okay Darling."

They spent the rest of the morning searching the neighbourhood and nearby down, but still couldn't find Berlitz. They had even started asking passerbyers if they saw anything, but were unable to find a lead.

"We've been searching for three hours," Arthur thought aloud as he drove. Normally Ludwig would do the driving, but considering his panic state, Arthur figured it was better he took the wheel. "How about we break for lunch?"
Ludwig seemed hesitant, but agreed.

They found a small cafe to eat at. Arthur requested a table outside hoping that being outside would help with their nerves. Ludwig barely touched his food, but Arthur was happy that Ludwig at least ate a little bit (especially since he highly doubted that Ludwig had gotten breakfast that morning). They were just paying their bill when there was a commotion nearby. Ludwig and Arthur turned to see a German Shepherd barreling towards them. It wasn't just any German Shepherd, but Berlitz.

Ludwig's eyes immediately lit up and he began running towards him. Berlitz jumped up and the German caught him in his arms in a strong hug.

A wave of relief rushed over Arthur not only for Ludwig's well-being but also for seeing Berlitz safe (Ludwig's dogs were practically Arthur's at this point). A smile spread across his face as a wide grin grew on Ludwig's and Berlitz showered the German with kisses.

"Well," Arthur said with a sigh as he made his way to Ludwig's side, "we've found him. I think we should head home for some well-deserved rest. I'm sure Blackie and Aster are just as worried as we were."

"Of course," Ludwig replied as he tried to calm Berlitz down. "I know, I know I missed you too. But you shouldn't have run off like you did."

After some more lecturing from Ludwig, they headed back to the car. Once Berlitz was safely inside, Ludwig let out a big sigh.

"Everything alright?" Arthur asked.

"Yes...everything's fine now...Just...relieved, grateful." Ludwig lifted his gaze up to meet Arthur's. "Thank you...for you know...coming."

"But of course," Arthur said with a kiss. "Now how about we take the dogs to the park later and have a picnic dinner?"

"Sounds like a plan."
