Hws Rarepair Week Day 7: Fantasy

Author's Note: I can't take credit for this fairy au. It was created/discussed in the wonderful GerEng server by even more wonderful people. Arthur is the Fairy Queen/King (in our discussions we used both Queen and King for him so...) and falls in love with a human Ludwig. The best part of this au is that Ludwig gets to be spoiled. Anyway, onto the fic!

The sun was just peeking over the horizon when Ludwig awoke. For a moment he was confused, not recognizing his surroundings. Worn stone walls decorated in all kinds of vines and ivy, a mattress that he just seemed to sink into, the softest sheets he had ever felt. It surely wasn't his tiny apartment back in Germany. But he was quickly reminded of where he was when he heard a groan beside him, and the arms around his waist tightened. Right, Arthur had brought him to the Fairy Realm.

"Did you sleep well, my love?" Arthur asked, voice low and warm.

"Mhm. I don't think I've ever felt a more comfortable bed."

"Good. Only the best for you."

Ludwig buried his nose in the pillow, feeling heat rise to his cheeks. He didn't feel deserving of all these gifts and praise from Arthur, but it also made him unbelievably happy.

"So, is there a plan for today?" Ludwig asked, turning to face Arthur.

The fairy just shrugged. "Not really. I thought I could show you around a bit. Start with the castle, then the village, maybe the forest if there is time. Then a private dinner for just you and me. But that's not for hours, so sleep."

"But-"

"Sleep. I'll wake you when breakfast comes."

"I've always gotten up–"

"You needn't worry about any routines. You can do whatever you want. Sleep in until noon, lounge around all day. Whatever!"

Ludwig gave him a hard look. "Then let me go for my morning jog."

Arthur frowned. He brought Ludwig here so he didn't have to worry or work himself so hard. But at the same time, he wanted to give Ludwig everything he wanted. "Fine. If you want to go jogging, then I'm coming with you."

Ludwig gave him a smile, before pressing a kiss on Arthur's lips and getting up to get dressed.

"Are you okay back there?" Ludwig asked, biting back a laugh.

Arthur was lagging behind, desperately trying to keep up by flying. He had done well for the first half-hour, but then he began to tire; he wasn't used to so much physical activity. Part of Ludwig felt bad for his lover, but he also found it funny to see this all-powerful fairy ruler defeated by everyday exercise.

As much as Ludwig was amused by all this, he didn't want Arthur to pass out. A stream appeared up ahead, providing a perfect spot for a break. "We'll stop for a little bit up ahead," Ludwig called back.

Arthur collapsed onto a nearby rock once they reached the stream. "How do you like this?" he asked between pants.

Ludwig shrugged. "It helps me clear my mind and blow off steam if I'm upset or angry."

Arthur's brows furrowed. "Are you upset or angry?"

"Oh no, not at all. I don't know...I just...I mean everything's changing. I love it, I do. I just...It's a little overwhelming trying to take everything in."

Arthur waved his hand, inviting Ludwig closer. Ludwig sat on the ground next to the rock, resting his head on Arthur's thigh. The fairy brought his hand to Ludwig's hair, running it through the man's hair. "I'm sorry...I-If you want to go home we–"

"No! I'm happy here with you, but it's just... I just need some time to get used to the new space. I'm happy Arthur, really."

"If you're sure. But if you ever change your mind, just let me know."

Ludwig nodded. He let his eyes flutter closed, relishing in the sensation of Arthur's nails against his scalp.

"You know?" Arthur began, "This stream reminds me of how we first met."

Ludwig smiled at the memory. The day he met Arthur had been a stressful one. It was the two-year anniversary of his brother's death, his boss had given him hell despite Ludwig having worked his ass off for a week straight, and then his dog had gotten out and injured his paw. After tending to the wound Ludwig had to get out. He went for a jog, but this one went far longer; he just wanted to forget it all. Who knew he would stumble upon a Fairy Queen and a rift between the fairy and human realms.

And now he was the lover of that Fairy Queen, living in the Fairy Realm with him. Back then, he never knew what that bad day would lead to, and honestly, part of him was relieved for the poor day, or else he may not have found Arthur when he did.

"I'm hungry. I think we should head back for breakfast," Arthur announced.

Though Ludwig was quite comfortable, his stomach rumbled, and he had to agree. Ludwig rose from his seat and offered a hand to Arthur. The fairy gladly accepted, and the two-headed back to the castle, hand-in-hand.
