It feels so good seeing so many familiar things. All flat land. Trees everywhere you look. Fields with corn in them. It's good to be home.
My aunt agreed to let me stay with her for a while until I got my own place. As I pull into her drive, I see her coming out of her front door.
"AMANDA!" She yells, her apron still tied around her waist.
"AUNT SHELIA!" I yell back, getting out of the car and running to give her a hug.
"I haven't seen you in forever!" She says.
"Been awhile." I say, pulling away from her.
"Come. I've made supper." She says.
"Okay. Let me just grab my stuff." I say, walking to the trunk of my car. I open it and grab my bag. As I close the trunk, I hear the sound of a truck coming. I turn around and see a group of boys driving towads my direction. They get to where I am and they stop. The driver starts talking before he gets his window down all the way.
"Hey sexy la-" I hear the driver say. I look at him and I see his eyes are wide. "Mandy?"
I look at him in confusion and then relazation hits me. "Michael?" He has changed so much. His hair a white, but not white white color. "What the hell?" I say.
"Umm. Bye." He says. He drives away at a fast speed. I stand there in shock. I can't believe that was Michael. I finally am pooled out of my state of shock and walk into the house.
----------------------------
"This will be your room." My aunt says, opening the door to one of the bedrooms upstairs.
"Thank you so much Aunt Shelia for letting me stay." I say.
"It's my pleasure. I knew how bad your Mom was getting and I didn't want you to have to stay around that." She says, rubbing my back. "I'll leave you be. Goodnight Amanda." She says as she closes the door.
I look arounf my new room for a while. Nothing really, just a bed and dresser. Just what I need. I sit my stuff down and walk over to the window. I see flat land streached for miles. It looks endless. My eyes finally land on the water tower Michael and I use to go to. I open the window and look down.
"Not that long of a drop." I say to myself. I climb donw the side of the house and land on the ground. It's a long walk, but I finally make it. I start climbing up the ladder until I hear someone say, "No ones allowed up there." I mentally curse myself. I turn around and I'm faced with Michael once again.
"I can come up here." I say, going up the ladder. Once I get to the top, I take a sit and look over the town. Soon, Michael is climbing up and is sitting next to me.
"Well, you left. So I don't know." Michael says.
"Michael, it wasn't my fault I left." I say.
"This was ours. Both of ours." Michael says.
"First you try to hit on me and when you realize it was me, you drove off and now you're hear blaming me for my Mom making me move with her." I say. "Nice to see you too Michael."
"You never told me bye." He says. "I didn't know you were leaving until you were already gone. I was having a bad day that day and I went over to your house to ask you to come here and the place was empty." Michael says, looking down.
"Michael. I'm sorry. I wanted to tell you I was leaving, but I wasn't allowed." I say.
"Why?" He asks.
"My parents didn't like you. They you and I walking over here and they got pissed." I say.
"Is that why you moved?" He asks.
"Kind of. Well, that's what Mom said. Now she's an alcoholic and steals." I say. "That's why I left California."
"You moved to California?"
"Yeah."
"Lucky bitch!" Michael says, elbowing me.
"Not all fun tho. There's a lot of asshole guys." I say.
Michael was about to speak, until his phone went off. "I'm sorry, but I have to go." He says, pushing himself up.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"You remember Hannah Miles?" He asked, while going down the ladder.
"Yeah." I answer.
"Well, her and I are kind of." He says, looking down.
"Going out?" I finish his sentence.
"Yeah." He smiles.
"Get it Clifford." I laugh.
"I sure will." He laughs.
"Bye Michael."
"Bye Amanda."

*MICHAEL P.O.V*
"Dude, how was the date?" Luke asks.
"It was good." I say, shoving a bite of pancake in my mouth.
"Did you get any?" Luke asks, shoving a piece of bacon in his mouth.
"What the hell?" I laugh.
"Hey, just asking the basics." Luke says, throwing his hands up in surrender.
"No, I didn't get any." I get up from the table and put my plate in the sink.
Luke is my roommate. Once I turned 18, I bought an apartment and asked Luke if he'd want to move in with me. Once Amanda left, I kind of went down hill. Partying every night, drinking a lot, having sex with anything that had a vagina. You name it, I've done it.
"Question." Luke says.
"Ask it." I reply.
"That chick we saw yesterday, at Sheila's, who was she?" Luke asked.
"Remember Amanda Lane?" He nods. "That was her."
"No way!" Luke says, standing up. "She's fucking hot." I felt heat rush to my face.
"Yeah. California does something to people." I say, turning around and walking towards the door. "I'll be back in a little while."
"Alright dude." Luke says.
I walk out to the road and head to the only place I know I can go to clear my head.
The water tower.
