'I've been around the world,
had my pick of any girl,
you think I'd be happy but I'm not.

Everybody knows my name,
but it's just a crazy game,
whao, it's lonely at the top.'
Lonely at the top - Randy Newman

Kongpob loved when he could spent time with Berkeley. Taking long walks along the waterfront with his faithful friend, or through the park, or just curling up with him when Kong had had one of his long work days. Getting up just when the sun was just peeping over the horizon, letting it's pinkie glow seep into the dark, blue sky or in the evening when the sky was filled with red, like the sun was bleeding out, soaking into the low atmosphere.

When Kong had still been with Patricia, these early mornings and late evenings walks were the only times he could really spend any time with his canine companion. She had demanded most of his time and attention when he wasn't working and had hated it when he had spent any time with Berkeley. When their relationship was new, he had tried to be more understanding and to let her take over his time. He knew how much she didn't like being around Berkeley, for some reason and would always presume that one day, once she got used to him maybe her feelings would change but that never happened. She ended up getting even more resentful and would get upset whenever he spent any extra time with him.

To him it seemed like jealousy but he couldn't understand why.

No, that's not fully true. He knew why but he just couldn't understand her reasoning for being that way. Berkeley was one of the most important beings in his life so it was only natural for him to put Berkeley's needs first at times.

As soon as he had woken up that morning, the sky had been had just been turning red. It was Kong's definition of perfect dog walking weather so as soon as he had slipped into some casual clothes and grabbed Berkeley's lead, they were both off the boat, with Berkeley strongly leading the way to one of his favourite haunts. A local dog park.

Kong smiles as he watches Berkeley charge around on the grass. The park at this time in the morning was almost empty with the exception of one or two other dog walkers and an early morning jogger. There was still a bit of a chill in the air as Kong was stood watching his middle aged Golden Retriever charge around like he was still a puppy. Stopping every so often to say hello to other dogs with his tongue lolling out from the side of his mouth and his tail going a mile a minute. His breed wasn't seen an awful lot in Thailand so Berkeley always got quite a bit of attention. There was no doubt in Kong's mind that Berkeley loved the attention that he got.

He also seemed to love attracting a lot of attention for Kong too. Kong would always get someone approaching them, asking him about Berkeley's breed, his age or just to fuss over him and most of the time, asking Kong out. He would always decline the offer, being the gentleman he was, but with a charming smile and a cheeky wink.

Today hadn't been any different.

After their third lap around the park, getting at least five people asking for his phone number, it was time to head back to the boat. Berkeley settles himself in his bed as Kong goes to have a quick shower and to slip into a pair of grey jogging bottoms and a black band T. He walks out of the small bathroom, rubbing a towel through his damp hair to his phone and dials Pete's number.

It was the start of the weekend and apart from needing to be in his office in the afternoon, the morning was just for him and Berkeley. The store had been doing so well lately that they were hiring more staff and because of the growing store and his growing work load Pete had insisted that he needed someone to help him with the book keeping, so he had volunteered quite enthusiastically in helping with the interviews. This surprised Kong. He couldn't help being suspicious when Pete became enthusiastic because Pete didn't become enthusiastic about anything.
